Let my friend change the half shaft today and he tore the boot on the lower ball joint. Will this cause problems no matter what? and is there a way to repair it? Is there anywhere I can just buy a ball joint boot and not have to replace the whole ball joint? I think its stupid that they dont make universal boots that you can use..

This is on the GS... I read about the recall, but does it apply to the GS models as well?

If it was ripped and you're positive nothing got inside the boot, then you can buy a boot somewhere to replace it. But if there's a chance that some particles got in the joint area, you're better off buying a new one. (Yes, some people here will tell you to just repack it with grease and put a new boot on, but for the price of the new arm, I'd rather just spend the money and know I have a brand new part.) They're not that expensive either.
