possible or not? i hear it is supposed to be bolted the opposite way and thus can only be fit in 2g

i want to know because im planning on (maybe) buying a 1st gen gsx that this guy claims to have an evo 3 engine in, but i want to make sure i can call him on his shit if this is not a real swap or ill be even moreso inclined to purchase

ive heard both that you CAN do evo 3 swap and ive heard that its impossible

so if anyone can give me some insight id really appreciate it

Yes, the EVO 3 is a possible swap just like its USDM variant, but it makes 225hp instead of the stateside 210hp. This comes from the larger turbocharger (standard 16g) and exhaust components. The later EVOs' were the opposite facing ones with the twin scroll turbochargers and what not.

Run the number off the motor to make sure, but seriously an EVO3 motor is nothing glamorous or exotic LOL, as you can bring a USDM motor to the same specs fairly easily, or surpass them as well. I remember seeing somewhere that the EVO3 motors were 8:5:1 compression which is higher than its USDM counterpart. They are also equipped with 510cc injectors.

It'll fit in a 1G, but a 6 bolt would be a better decision IMO.

One of the things I forgot to mention is it's a JDM evo 3 engine, and from what I'm reading these are 7 bolt

Direct from RRE:

EVO Motors: The valve covers of the EVO 1-3 motors will be a kind of titanium color. They are the same as a US 2G motor with nothing fancy. They have the smaller 2G style intake ports, a small runner intake manifold with a larger plenum and a larger throttle body than a 2G motor. Still they are hard to find. Many are from other 4G63 powered cars and can have small 13G sized turbos. They will not bolt into a 1G because there are no provisions for the front roll stopper motor mounts that bolts to the block. Everything in Japan from 94 and up has the front and rear roll stopper motor mounts on the transmission, 2G Eclipse style. Many people are running around yapping about how they have an EVO motor in their car. If it bolts into a 1G, it isn't an EVO motor.

oh, and there is nothing wrong with the 7bolt motor from japan. it was only the 7 bolts here that MIGHT C.W. Do some more research on that too. the percentages of CW in 2G cars is higher than a lot of other cars, but any car(but mazda rotories) can develop CW.

Hmmmm... I won't say that RRE is wrong, but I dont' see why it would not drop in.

The engine is in the same configuration as the DSMs.

At the very least, you can use the Intake Manifold, Exhaust Manifold, Turbo, injectors (if they are yellow tops) and 02 housing.

its not just the engine thats the problem. its the no front roll mount = engine flop!

And there are very few differences from the evo 7bolt and the US 7 bolt. I am a very big supporter of the bolt ons though! Intake manifold is a much better design, the exhuast manifold is nice as well(but save some money and port a 2g mani), injectors and o2 housings are all very nice. also the cams are good if you get them, but it has been found by the evo1-2-3 researchers that the evo2 and 3 cams are the same part number as a 1G turbo car. Evo 1 are the same cams 2Gs have stock.

I'm just saying that all these questions have been asked(and answered) a bunch already.
Not to pick on natas, but the evo3 came with the evo3-16g, and it did not come with 510cc injectors. Evo3s came in 2 versions of the yellow top. one was 540cc, the other 585cc.
The CR for the evo is wrong too.

EVO II : 8.5:1 CR
EVO III: 9.0:1 CR
EVO 4-9: 8.8:1 CR

read these for TONS of info on evo1-2-3 and compatability with our cars. they cover the vast majority of what works and what does not.

225hp ? evo III's make 260-270BHP
its compression ratio is 9.0:1 or some source even says 8.8:1
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/1543/Mitsubishi-Lancer-EVO-III-GSR.html

all evo I.II.III and vr4rs eci multi are equiped with 510cc injectors

its of cos possible to mount an evoIII motor into ## car ,
if it uses the EVO III head, then if u see a 1G intake mani then its sure not a E3 head
if u open up the valve cover , the word E3 will be printed on the cams
as well as the pistons do have the word E3 on it.

E3's are known to be the meanest evo's in stock condition
with a high compression ratio, with a big 16g , what more would u need
and it comes with 510cc injectors which will enable you to hit 300whp with some simple mods
