I'm still tying to figure out what to get. My choices are 2g cars with high mileage and mostly no mods but ready to drive. 1gs with more mods but in questionable shape and some work needed. The 1gs I'm looking at have the 6 bolt engine 4 bolt rear so there is more power potential and worth in the driveline. The ready to run 2g is around 800 more than the 1g that needs work. I dont mind the work but it'd also be nice to get in and go. Any opinions welcome, this will be the last question before I get one. I win either way:) Thanks!

Really it comes down to personal preference. Both the 1st and 2nd generations are getting old now, thus parts will need to be replaced eventually if not right away. Maintenance should be about the same.

You'll probably find nicer body conditions on 2G's since they are that little bit newer, and you'll most likely find a non-grinding tranny.

Personally I like the 1G myself, as I just can't get past the interior on the 2G (Sebring anyone?).

Be prepared to pay for maintenance parts on both. My two cents. :thumb:

I would say to go with the 2g. Like 92AndAHalf was saying, the tranny will most likely not grind in the 2g. Plus, if it were me, I would prefer to get the car that doesnt have any mods. That way, if any mods are put on, they would be put on by me, and I would know that they were done right. And, if they werent, the I would only have myself to blame. Use your money that you would save from buying a car that runs, to mod it yourself. Because you may not always know what it will take to fix the 1g and how much it will cost in the end to fix it.

the engines overall are better in the 1g's IMO because they dont experience crankwalk like some of the 2g's do but their trannys dont grind as often like he said above me. but then again if you want to go for overall body apperance (paint quality rust dents etc.) then i would go with a 2g. obviously theyre going to be newer thus having less rust and body damage from dumbass people that park to close to you when youre already in the back corner of the parking lot and dent the side of your car with their door. (resolve by leaving a nice looking looge on window) anyways. i personally like 2g's because of their looks and their a little bit newer.

IMO go with a 2g but either way youre still driving a power house :rocks:

I agree with crimsondragon, my 1g has the 6-bolt with 24 000km on it and it rips like crazy. So buy both do the swaps sell the 1g to some kid and tell him it has a newer engine. Get best of both worlds, makes sense to me. :talon:

I like the 1gs better proformance wise..But overall your probably going to find some nicer 2gs. 1gs can look nice on the outside but most people have shity seats and carpet but 2gs are a little better.

it depends on what you want from your car.... If you want strickly performance go with the 1g and if you want performance with the good "looks" go with the 2g... but make sure you get and awd in either of them otherwise expect having traction problems especially after modding them...

but then again if you want to go for overall body apperance (paint quality rust dents etc.) then i would go with a 2g. obviously theyre going to be newer thus having less rust and body damage

This can be true, but remember that 2g's are notoriously bad for rusting front strut towers. If you're looking at a 2g, look at the strut towers, especially if this is a Northern car. It is possible to find very very clean 1g's... You just have to look around. Spend 4 months buying the car, and not 4 days, you'll be happier :thumb:
