arp mains not so tight??

ive been reading alot about the problem with using ARP main studs and the fact that you have to line hone out the bottom end, b/c of the strength of the arp and its capability to not streach like the stock mitsu bolts. im almost done with my rebuild and have the arp main and wish to use them.

i did a little brainstorming and did some test.. i took the stock main bolt and intalled it acording to the hayns.. torqed it to 60fp and did the quarter turn.. then i took the torqe wrench and gradualy checked it to see what fp. it was at and ended up at 89 fp.

now will this work and mabe alow me to use the arp? what if i just torqed the stud to 80 fp and elimenated the quarter turn. also wouldent that make the specs more accurate?
 
I have used arp main studs without line honing; Its good to do a line hone...but if u dont want u might be ok just depends on ## mains and the crank. I would mock up your lower end put bearings in and check it with the arp studs in torqued down. Then get a mic and mic ## crank and then mic the opening of ## bearing hole where ## crank goes and c what it says
 
theres bout 4500 miles on my engine right now...but i have also done it on my previous mustang motors i have built....i would honestly suggest u mic everything cause every block is different
 
They say to line hone the main's to get the BEST result's. DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT TQ the main's down to 80ft lbs. Torque them down to what ARP say's. Torquing them more then spec will close the oil clearance for your main journal's on your crank to the bearing's, and wind up distorting them from too much heat, or cause gauling( metal transfer(basicly the bearing will weld its self to the crank)).
