I am not used to a DSM link AT ALL. I had a EVO 8 and used a simple AFC2. I have connected my DSM link to my comp and it captures all sensors and readings. I am however having issues actually copying any changes to my ECU. I bought this car with it already installed and am wondering if it is possible to not actually have the chip to tune the ECU and only have the DSM LINK hooked up to read the info.

For anything DSMlink based, you're going to find TONS of info on the DSMlink forums.

http://www.dsmlink.com/forums/

Did you get the ownership of DSMlink transferred to you from the previous owner?

Yes, you can just use DSMlink to log but why not use it to tune as well? It is better than an SAFC.

To all replys.... First: Yes I would Like to use it to tune My vehicle, but all attempts to actually copy to ECU have not worked.
Second: Unfortunetly, previous owner was untruthful about condition of car and had to take to court. He will not transfer ownership to me.I am in process of seing if I can switch ownership talking to DSM link directly.
Third: I have the DSM link manual and have read several times and beyond basic operation, it is not helpful in my trouble shooting.

No, no errors occur. This is what is frustratting. all readings are accurate and during every capture session, data streams perfectly. When I attepmt to copy to ECU it will not change settings. Example: (same for all attempts)

Attempted to change RPM idle level. When I change from say 950 to 1100, no changes occur to rpm's Same goes for fuel and timing and launch settings along with all others. Why I am wondering if It might be only set to read data and not copy to ECU. I am unfamiliar with what parameters needed to actually burn to ECU.

Yes, This is what I thought, But I have read that unless it has a eprom, the ECU would not read any settings at all. I might have been misinformed with my findings. I have yet to rip apart ECU because of this. Assuming I do have a EPROM, is there any other possilbe reasons for not being able to copy changes to ECU?

Yes. And when I recapture to see if any changes have taken affect, all the readings are the same and the bar sheets remain unchanged.

Thank you For your Help. Will investigate ECU tomorrow and if EPROM with chip is present, then will contact and ask them. One more Question before I head out. If I do not have a EPROM socketed ECU, what Model ECU should I use for a 96 with a 1st gen 6bolt? Would I use a 1st gen ECU or a 2nd Gen?

I would suggest going on to the Dsmlink forums and ask some of the guru's over there. If the car was sold to you with the dsmlink in it, then its the sellers responsibility to transfer ownership for the dsmlink as well so you can get a username and password for the dsmlink forums. I think that would the best way for you to solve this problem.
