I have just installed a new tubular manifold and i think it heated my o2 sensor wires up or something and ruined it cause right after i installed my new manifold (1-2days) i get a check engine light.

I did the little test where you use a volt meter to scan the ecm and it reads 1big wave and 1 small wave and in the chilton book it says thats code 11 and it means o2 sensor

How do i know if thats the only code flashing cause it just repeats the same one?

And will it cause my car to run lean or rich b/c its my daily driver and no money for o2 sensor
right now.

thanks in advance

I check codes with my pocketlogger, but I've read many times on the forum that Autozone will read codes for you for free. It will store multiple codes if they exist. If you're seeing one code repeated, that probably means you only have one code (but I'd double-check that or just go to Autozone).

You can get a new front O2 sensor for $50 from oxygensensors.com. If you removed your heat shields, they normally protected the O2 sensor wire from the *very freakin hot* exhaust manifold and O2 sensor housing. You might want to look into alternatives that will protect the O2 sensor harness.

Most auto parts stores will check OBDII codes for free, however, checking OBDI codes is a bit more involved. For example, my store has a reader that does both, but only comes with OBDI connectors for Ford, Chrysler, GM, and Toyota/Lexus. And honestly, half the time our code reader doesn't recognize the Big 3's adapters, so we end up not being able to read OBDI codes at all.

Do 1g cars use a standard Chrysler plug or do they use a different plug? I don't know if an average parts store could scan it.

I will get a new sensor soon with probably some kind of wrap to protect it, since the tubular manifold wont let me put a shield on.

But was just making sure that it wont make my car lean until then.

Is there a way i can confirm its the o2 sensor by reving it and looking for black smoke or what?

Just as a side note. You need to come up with something for a heat shield or your going to bake everything under your hood. I have a tubular manifold and I got a piece of sheetmetal and just bent it so it covers the top and goes down the sides of the manifold. In order to attach it I welded a tab on each side so I could bolt it into the two outermost studs for the manifold on the head. Works great for me. Travis
