When you start the car, it idles extremely rough and dies out after a few seconds… seems to be running really rich and misfiring like crazy… scanned it and replaced the sensor it told me was bad witch was the CAS. Engine is getting spark and fuel, checked the timing about 3 times, everything is timed properly. Anyone have any suggestions?

As well as the above stated boost leak test, try unplugging the MAS. If it runs the same, your MAS could be bad.

I tried 2 different good mas's, still the same problem. Here's some background info:

3" turbo back with no cat... 2.3L stroker engine ran perfectly for 2-3k miles & yes this just happened out of the blue. I was at a stop light and the car just suddenly died out me. I got it back to my house and this is what its been doing. I've pretty much checked everything. A lot of smoke coming out the exhuast... and the idle jumps like crazy when started. The RPMs do not stay steady what so ever. If I try to open the throttle up, it wants to rev higher, but just shuts down after a second or two.

The car actually has 550's with safc. The safc is set from when the car used to run perfect.

alright have u tried to floor it when u crank it that pegs the voltage out on the maf and basicly bypasses it in away

Did you install the sensor properly? I'm not sure on the 95-96, I just swapped a 1g CAS on my car when my CAS went dead. I know ont he 1Gs the motor must be at TDC when you install it.

Only logical things I could think of would be CAS or MAS.

I have had ECU's go bad, that would run the car very rich until it died, it would them restart run rich again then die, and so on.

You may want to try a differnt ECU.

Wow I completely forgot about that. Usually though, doesn't it throw a CEL? He said it only scanned as a CAS error and they replaced it.

It's definitely worth a shot though.

No one's asked yet...what color smoke comes out? I'm still thinking boost leak, that's exactly what mine did when I had a big one (forgot to reconnect the IC piping after turbo swap DOH!)

Well if he says its running very rich we could all assume that its black. But Yeah, how do you know its rich? What color smoke?

It certianly sounds like it has something to do with a vac leak.
Have you checked anything with the ignition system to rule that out? spark plugs, coil or Power Transiistor?
