I am buying Tein Flex coilovers soon and I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could pick them up for under $1,300 shipped... I can't find it lower then that anywhere.. Ebay is only like 20 bucks less than that.

That is about the best price you'll find. I bought mine off of eBay but I also got the EDFC and my total was $1600. My only recommendation would be to look on eBay for someone selling them that has a "Best Offer" ad and talk with them and see how low you can get them. Maybe try and find a physical company selling them for cheapest and see if they'll beat their price. But I think you're going to have a hard time finding cheaper. Trust me, I tried to find a way for about a month with no good results.

But, on the up side, they are well worth the money! :D

I just ordered the Tein Flex coilovers for an Eclipse. No custom spring rate that I know of.

This is what I did:

I went to Tein's website and found the product number for the Flex system coilovers. I then went to Google and pasted that product number and searched for it. I opened up every link that looked like it would be selling the coilovers. I then found 2 or 3 companies that had them for the same price (it seems that there is a bottom number that no one will sell them below). After that, I went to eBay and searched for Tein Flex under Mitsu Eclipse parts. The seller name of the company I ordered mine from is kurumamotoring. At that point, they had a Buy It Now option and also a Best Offer option (which I see they don't any more). I sent them an e-mail stating this is the price I can find it for somewhere else, can you meet/beat it? After sending a bunch of e-mails back and forth we finally agreed on a price which was fair to both of us, so I bought them.

As of right now though, there are no Tein Flex coilovers on eBay.

If you need any more help, let me know!

I will be looking into the price more.. thanks for the input on this..

My next thing is opinions.. I was talking to my friend that has them on his auto-x bmw and he said that coilovers have to be rebuilt very often... like ever 1-2 years.. and he was saying that the spring rate is VERY aggressive... too aggressive for normal driving... Is this true?

These coilovers are not built for a typical DD. They have an aggressive spring rate, even on their softest setting. On the hardest setting, you can pretty much feel every flaw in the road. It all depends on what your goals are with the car and how nice of a ride you want. If you going to be using this mostly as a DD with very little to no track time, I probably wouldn't recommend getting these. If you want to get into autox, then yes, go for them!

To give you an example of how stiff the springs are, when I have them on the hardest setting, and I go over even the smallest bump, if there are people in the back seat, they hit their head on the glass of the hatch. :p And if you hit a pothole or some other flaw, the car does not flex (like you see some SUV's do to make the ride feel softer/smoother). It sinks/rises with the flaw in the road and then keeps going. No bounce/rebound at all.

Is that hurting you around say curvy highways that have some imperfections... like if you were to hit one of those imperfections does it make you slide really bad.. Because currently I have no suspension done with all this hp and I just body roll like crazy and I don't want something that is going to help, but then when it comes to a real life highway it's going to hurt..

No, it doesn't cause sliding at all. I can't really say how well they work around curves and corners because my summer tires are bald as anything so I can't really push it for fear of the tires giving out. The few times I've pushed it a bit (definitely not to it's max) it has held rock solid without any problems. Also, I have RM DSM sway bars which help immensely with body roll. I've noticed that when I go around corners with this thing though, the car body seems to stay in place yet my body moves how the car body should, if that makes any sense. I have taken some turns fast enough to scare my brother and we've both had to hold on. I have never been in any other car that the forces of going around a corner have acted on me and not the car. As I stated before, the car is pretty much rock solid, especially on the stiffest spring setting. But if you're looking for the ultimate suspension setup, I'd get a set of sway bars with these.

Yeah, I was already planning to do RMDSM Sway bars at the same time.. That sounds really nice.. I was in my friend's Jetta the other day.. he has a very nice suspension set up.. And he can take turns around here that scared me because I'm not used to being in a car that handles like that. I just want something that will hold up VERY well on road racing and on very tight turns.

The other thing was.. I have a friend who actually does a lot of road racing and he has tein flex's and he said coilovers aren't the best because they have to be rebuilt a lot...

How many of you are using EDFC? How's that working for ya? I would love to see a how-to guide of the entire installation (only for the GSXs though, not worth the money for a WWD. :sosad:)

I'm using EDFC and I love it. I did a lot of research before I bought it (and found a lot of people on here don't like it). One main reason I like it is that since PA roads suck :notgood:, I can have the coilovers set on the hardest setting for around town driving and then on the softest for highway. The EDFC can have 3 presets and right now I have one for softest all around, one for hardest all around, and one setup for drag racing (hardest setting in rears and softest in fronts - only for FWD's though). It was fairly easy to set up. The motors for the system have a specific way to be installed on the top of the coilovers (as covered in the instructions). They each have a set of wires that you run to wherever you want to mount the control unit. You have to do a bit of wiring to get the control unit power and ground. And then you just plug the wires coming from the motors into the control unit and you're ready to go!

Here is a link I found that details the motor install (sorry it's from a Civic) - http://www.clubcivic.com/board/install-tein-edfc-t53859.html?t=53859

If you want/need any more info, or if you want more specifics, let me know.

Also, the motors have NO PROBLEM clearing the hood. If you look EDFC up on here people are in debate over this for some reason.

I'm snowborder714's brother.

A quick note here on installing the EDFC. Although the instructions that come with the unit and the link listed above don't mention it, it would be MUCH easier to install the motors on the coilovers before the coilovers are installed on the car. As you can see in the link, the top of the coilover sticks out pretty far on a civic. The same is not true for a 2g dsm. We installed the motors on the coilovers after they were installed in the car and it was a pita.

Another note: As part of the installation you have to apply Loctite to the piston shaft threads and then install the motor. Make sure to give the Loctite adequate time to dry before messing with the motor in any way. We had problems with two of the motors not working correctly when we first tried the system out. If felt like the motor was trying to work but not grabbing? Somehow, we managed to fix (not exactly sure how really) but I think the problem was the Loctite not doing its thing. Once in awhile we check all 4 to make sure they're still functioning properly and haven't had any problems since.

As far as installation of the coilovers goes, they're just like any other suspension installation. It's really easy to do (unless you have tons of rusted bolts and nuts like we did, then it turns into a weekend affair in your buddy's garage).

In anybody wants any pictures just let us know, we have tons! Sadly, we don't have any of the installation process for some reason...WTF

Modified Mag did it way back when they were upgrading their own DSM. Can't seem to find the exact issue it was, but it wasn't very extensive.

i have tien coilovers and i run them at 11 notches in the front and 13 in the rear and i love them i however do not have the edfc but even without it they are amazing units

it will change the charactoristics of you suspension dramatically
