Hey everyone, I have a 95 gst that is having some starting issues. Once it gets started, the car runs perfectly fine and idles well. However, I am currently having to jump the car to get her to start. I took the battery into Autozone to have it checked out, and they said it was dead, but the recharged it and it held its charge and told me it was ok. I then brought in my alternator, and they said it was dead, so I replaced it, and it still doesn't fix the problem.

Sometimes after I turn the car off I can quickly turn it back on (within a few minutes) but other times it won't start again after I turn it off. I am at school right now, and the car is at home, so I can't currently take a look at it, but my only two guesses are that I either have a bad ground or something that is draining my battery, or that there is some issue with the power cable from the alternator to the battery to recharge it back up.

Can anyone think of any other problems that could make this happen? I'm pretty frustrated that the alternator didn't fix it after I bought that, but I don't want to put too much into my car until I can get it to reliably start :).

Thanks!

If your battery and alternator are both good then it sounds like you have a pretty good sized draw somewhere. Have you messed with anything electrical lately? Like a stereo install or something along those lines. I'd still be a little skeptical of the battery though because even if it recharged at the shop it could have easily drained if it wasn't in that good of shape and had been fully run down before. Get an Optima and be done; unless it is already LOL.

Yeah, when I brought the battery in the initial short test said that they needed to do the "hour-long individual cell test." that one passed. I guess I could try hooking up just a different battery from one of our other cars to it and see if it works then. This problem has actually been happening since I bought the car. There is an aftermarket cd player in it, so I'll see about pulling it out and checking wires and whatnot... Any other thoughts?

what you should do is make a ground wire kit for it that helps alot with any type of idle issues.

what you do is buy heavy gauge positive wires and attach them to different ground locations in your engine bay

I was having the same problem i recently wired street glow neon onto my car and a new stereo system and had a bad ground and it would run my battery dead within a few hours even if i had the switch off. I totally rewired my neon and my stereo system and it was good as new.hope that helps:thumb:
