The upper ball joints are available from many sources but the two lower ball joints on each side seem to be available only as control arm assemblies only for the 2G.

My lowers are worn and so far Google has only found ball joints as part of control arms. For the cost I will spend some more time looking.

There is a safety recall (meaning they have to replace the arm as many times as needed) on the 2G lower control arm ball joints, I just got mine done last month at Chrysler last month, two brand new control arms for free. :rocks:

OldMan, (Coming from me that just sounds wrong)

I saw many references to the recall, but after 183K miles I should expect worn ball joints to be my problem. Hmmmm.... Chrysler eh? Is this for real or a ethics question?

Why would I lie about something like this. My driverside completely failed about 4 Saturdays ago and the wheel was clicking and became wobbly, got the car towed to the Chrysler parking lot (closed at the time), called Chrysler HQ number off the 1000 FAQ and verified because I was expecting trouble. Showed up at the dealership Monday mornning and sure enough the counter person tells me the recall was already done, I said I have checked with the HQ already and this is a safety recall and it will have to be done as long as the car is registered to be on the road. The guy turned and looked at his manager who had heard our conversation and he simply nodded his head without saying a word. Picked up the car two days later with 2 brand new lower control arms (both sides) without paying a single dime. :D

Yeah, I had a similar situation about a year ago. I noticed that there was evidence of fluid leakage from the rear of my transfer case, where the driveshaft connects. I remembered getting a safety recall notice several years ago soon after I bought my car that described this same issue. At that time, I took my car in for this recall. Basically, for the recall, they inspect the transfer case fluid level and look for any sign of fluid leakage. If they find signs of leakage, they then need to replace the yoke and the seal at the yoke. At that time, there was no evidence of leakage, therefore the dealership did nothing more than check the transfer case fluid level.

So about a year ago, I noticed fluid leakage in this area. I called the dealership to set up an appointment for the safety recall to be performed again now that my transfer case was actually leaking (at this point I have roughly 180,000 miles on the car.) I was told the same thing - that this service was performed on my vehicle already. I also ended up having to contact Chrysler in order to get the dealership to perform the service. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone to make this happen. I guess you have to be a bit obnoxious to get safety recall repairs done.

Oldman,
I believe you about the recall.

What sounds wrong is me calling someone else "Old Man".

Thanks for the follow up. The reports on the web all said that the recall would be only done once. Mine was performed some years ago.

I know what you meant by that, I was referring to this statement.

Stand your ground, "safety recall" means they're required to perform it as many times as it needs since they're replacing it with the same defective component.

Don't worry. I took my car into sears to get it aligned and got RAPED with charges.

Something like; cams, adjustable ball bearings/joints, and tyrods. It was $1500 after all the labor. I was pissed.
