I was looking at Evo tuning.. I was bored... and I stumbled across something that they use a lot as a logger. It is called EvoScan. I went on the web site: http://www.limitless.co.nz/#SupportedVehicles, and it actually says it works with our cars too and any mitsubishi up from 94 using the "MUT/MUT-II/MUT-III protocol" for the logging... This logger logs everything including knock sum.. would it be possible that because this logger uses the Mitsubishi protocol and not the generic obd protocol that it can log things that the other generic obd2 loggers can't?

I checked that link and man that looks awesome! it even has map tracing! I emailed the guy to see what kind of cable we would need cause it looks to be usb based, but I only did a quick look at it and it says FTDI USB OBD-I 12pin cable is required. so hopefully they will get back to me. the program looks good and its only 25 dollars!!!

Looks pretty damned amazing. I'm surprised nothing like this has already been released for DSMs. I wonder if the ECU flash feature could ever be made to work with 95 eproms, rather than just any mitsu ECU 2001+.

But a dyno feature?
Wild, and probably more for show than for use, graphing features?
100-133 samples per second?!

I'm getting one.

Yeah... It really looks sick.. I'm wondering if anyone has used it on our cars yet.. and this might give us the abilit to read knock on 2g's..

This is what it says at the top of the page
"Mitsubishi OBDII DataLogging Project. Supports All 1996+ Mitsubishi Vehicles"
So the only people I'm assuming that would be able to use this as a logger would be 96+ vehicles.

No.. that is their project.. currently they support all mitsubishi's with OBD2 connectors.. It looks like a really sick logger.. I currently use a generic obd2 logger on my carpc... this would be so nice..

Curious to see if anyone here uses it, if so, post up or try it!

We tune my buddies Evo using ECUflash and Evoscan. Together, the setup easily compares to DSMLINK, except I actually PREFER EvoScan to the Link logging. It's an amazing program!

I am pretty sure when we look back at the excel file that saves automatically after a run, the data goes up by ~ 50-100rpm increments, it's very precise!

EvoScan will only run on the 98-99 ecu.

Look a few lines down where it says supported vehicles.. it says: "1) Supports ALL USA/EUROPEAN/JAPANESE Mitsubishi Vehicles. (Uses the fast mitsubishi dealer MUT/MUT-II/MUT-III protocol for datalogging)
ALL Mitsubishi Vehicles with an OBDII connector, all mitsubishis from 1994 onwards have one of these!"

The problem with that ad is that you really have to read through it and not just look at all the pretty pictures. They also talk about features on upcoming versions as well. I can't wait to read an actual DSM review on this... the price was the biggest thing keeping me from getting DSMlink, especially after you factor in getting a laptop if you don't already have one.

^^^ Where did you read that at?

The 98 and 99 ecus have both the OBDII port and a Flash port.
They use the MUTIII protocol like the Evos.

The US 2G ecu all contain two diagnostic protocols:
OBDII for emissions purposes, which is slow and sucks for logging.
and
A factory/dealership protocol (MUT), which allows logging of almost every ecu variable. Like knockSum, injectorPW, etc. At a high sample rate.

98-99s have MUTIII like the Evos.
95-96s have a hybrid form of the 1G ALDL protocol.

Seemingly corroborating evidence,

I use a combination of EvoScan, MitsuLogger (freely-available software, similar to EvoScan), and EcuFlash (for reading/writing the ROM) on our Evo right now. It's good stuff, but as mentioned above, you'll need a 98/99 DSM to make use of it there. Just a point: map tracing isn't available in the currently generally-available version of EvoScan; you'd need to download MapTracer from AktiveMatrix to use it, and it makes a few assumptions about the size and scaling of your fuel and timing maps that aren't always accurate.

Hmm. Looks like it still works with all of our cars, back to '90. Just a different cable, and won't neccessarily use MUT-III (which would probably be why they list it as able to use MUT/MUT-II/MUT-III)... not that it 'won't run'. So just a bit slower with polling.

Older than 98 DSMs don't use any form of MUT (I,II,or III).
The handshake and data transfer protocol are different.
There would need to be software changes for EvoScan to work.

If all you have to do is buy a 98-99 ecu.. I'd be fine with that.. everyone is always selling their newer ecu's after they get DSMLink so they're so cheap. If I could monitor knock and everything else on my 2g that would be great.

Ceddy, that's odd as the website specifically says it works with a '90-94 DSM, so long as you have an ALDL/ODBI USB cable.

OBD-I (12Pin) Supported Vehicles
EvoScan software is confirmed working with these vehicles, using a FTDI USB OBD-I 12pin cable is required.
23) Mitsubishi Eclipse/DSM
24) 1990-93 Mitsubishi 3000GT/GTO
25) 1990-93 Mitsubishi Dodge Stealth
26) 1990-94 Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse, or Plymouth Laser
27) 1991-92 Galant VR-4
28) 1993 Mitsubishi Lancer GTI 16v
29) 1989-92 Colt, Summit & Mirage (CSM)
30) 1992-95 Mitsubishi Evo I, II & III
31) 1990-1995 Mitsubishi vehicles fitted with a 12-PIN OBDI diagnostic port

So what would I need to use this on my car? Do they sell a cable? I already have a data cable, will it work?
