Anyone have any tips on how to get the waterpump pulley back on? It's a pita to get all 3 holes to line up and then get the bolts in with such little space.

Brake the engine underneath with a jack, make sure to put a board between the oil pan and the jack. Remove making sure the jack is holding some weight. Slowly raise the engine with the jack. This will give you a little more room.

The real hard part is tightening the bolts. Since the water pumps spins. Get the bolts as tight as you can by finger. I used a friend to help. I but the belt over the pulley and with a pry bar pulled up. This put some tension on the belt which in turn put pressure on the pulley. My buddy tighted the bolts and I had not have a problem since.

Apply a little bit of RTV to the back of the first pulley that goes over the waterpump. Line up the holes and then let it set for a few minutes. It'll help hold that first pulley on so that you only have to hold the second pulley while trying to screw the bolts in.

By the way, this helps if you have the water pumps that don't have the alignment dowel.

Thanks for the tip. I actually got it on before I read this. That's exactly what I had to do though. I had to jack the motor up and then I had plenty of clearence to get those bolts on. :thumb:

3? I have 4 on mine.

What I meant was how you have to line up the holes on the waterpump and then also the 2 pulleys. There are 4 holes on each pulley just that you have to line all 4 up 3 times, if you get what I'm saying.

I have four on mine too.

Another good tip would be to install all the bolts and thread them all the way in by hand, then install and tension the belt, and then go back and tighten the pulley bolts.

Use two hands... One to hold the pulley the other to start the bolts by hand. Then use a 10mm ratchet wrench or spin the water pump counter clockwise to tighten the bolts. It's an acquired skill...

Is that for a 2g? I just did mine exactly how it says how to and i have a good amount of slack on the belt. Is it supposed to be like that?

Nope. You should have very little deflection in the belt. You need to adjust the alternator till the belt is tight. Also adjust the powersteering belt till it is tight as well.

What pulleys does the belt go around? The water pump, the double pulleys that are stacked on eachother and where else?

What I have found best is to bring one bolt hop on the pump to the top and then thread a bolt but hand a couple turns and the take my 10 mill boxend wrench and spin the pully like a bicycle then once it stop tuning do the other bolts the same way and then once the bolts are on, take a second 10 mill and use that to keep the pump from rotating and tighten all the bolts up one at a time.

+1 on this. Me and a friend did this yesterday on his GSX. I don't know if it makes a difference, but there was not enough room to get a socket in there to tighten everything down; we used a ratcheting wrench instead. Of course this is a 6-bolt swapped 2g so clearances may be different.

This belt goes around you water pump pully, crankshaft pully(double stacked), and the alternater.
