So what yall think is my best option? repair the tank with some JB weld or fuel tank repair kit? have it get welded? or get one from a junk garden? Thanks for all your input on this it is much appreciated.

Go to the junk yard, find a nice good un rusted and destroyed tank, clean it, Primer, paint and seal it, then fix any broken bolts, and put it back in. THat seems like what i would do.

ooh looks like you got a little leak there.......

like said, id locate a good tank and reseal the outside for good measure to prevent this from happening again.

throw the tank away....hell sell it to a scrap yard and use the little amount of money ud get from it to get a new tank from a pull yard or local sales....is yours awd and 1g? i got 1 just needs the inside cleaned its a bit big for shipping though XD

Most scrap places wont take a fuel tank. They aren't allowed to take anything that has been in contact with fuel.

not true in ky.

worked at a junk yard for a while.

and it is a good time to get a 12 gallon fuel cell.

highly recommend them. specially with the foam in them, so when you are under some hard cornering it keeps the fuel from sloshing about.

I wasnt sure from state to state. I know they wont here in AR and wont in south TN and north GA. Or wouldnt from me anyways. I was just goin off what the scrap yards told me. By junk yard are you talk auto salvage or steel scrap yard?

I realize that this is an old thread but I ran across it searching and the information is incorrect so I am straightening it out.

That is the Overfill Limiter (Two-Way Valve) which is installed on the vent line for the gas tank. This vent line runs from the gas tank to the charcoal canister and has the Overfill Valve installed by the tank and a check valve is installed on the firewall before the charcoal canister. The Overfill Valve open under slight vacuum. Here is a diagram from the Factory Service Manual (FSM), the Overfill Valve is #13.

That is a fuel check valve for the evap system.
Both of these responses are wrong. There is a separate check valve installed by the charcoal canister but this is not it. The actual check valve looks like this:

Just pulled my tank too and looks almost the same. Only difference is I didn't have any holes in the tank. The vent line just as it comes out of the tank has two pin holes in it. Does anyone know the best way to seal these pin holes? Unfortunately, the vent line where it enters the tank does not have a connector of any kind. Help? Any Ideas?

I would just use some JB Weld on the pin holes on the metal vent line. It's quick and easy and with hold up even around fuel.

Could also chop the section to make sure all the cancered area is gone and put a hose with clamps in between.

That sounds like a great idea unfortunately, the pinholes are too close to the tank and leave no room for clamping. Guess I will have to try the JB Weld. Thanks for the idea and trying to help.
