Hello all.
I'm new to the world of DSM's and just recently made the switch over since I was rear ended and hit a guard rail in my 240sx. I love the body style of the 1G so i picked up a 93 Eclipse GS. I've been creeping the board for the past 2 months now trying to learn little tips and tricks and have read the VFAQ page almost everyday. Now for the nitty gritty. It's a 93 GS, White, 5spd, and overall in very clean condition. I bought the car for 1500 dollars and 2 months later the trans blew up on me. So now I'm without a car and looking to build this car into something that I can show off to other DSMers. I want to turn into into a turbo and as much as I've read about it, it doesn't seem to be too much of a hassle to turbo the N/T. And even if it is that's what rebuilding a car is about. Getting to know it. So here's where I could use your guidance and opinions.

I'm doing a complete teardown of the motor over the winter. I want to replace everything. I have plenty of questions and I know that most of you have plenty of answers. So I guess I should get the list started so I don't bore you too much. It's going to be my DD and I'm hoping to come out strong next summer at the track running atleast mid 12's. I'm shooting for high 10's low 11's though.

While the motor is apart I want to get the block honed and bored out and get a vavle job done on it. How big should I bore the block? And what is the difference between a 3 angle valve job and a 5 angle valve job? Also is it worth going to a 2.3L stroker instead? Or even attempting the 4GCS*(The 2.4L 6 bolt. I think that's the block) and putting the 2.0 head on it.

I've seen many different exhaust manifolds and they have the T3/T4 flange and was wondering from personal experience what you perfer and if saving money for a tubular exhaust manifold is worth the money.

I'm getting ready to send my trans to either SHEP or TRE for a complete Stage 2 Rebuild. It's a N/T trans and was wondering if I should find a turbo trans from the junkyard just in case the stage 2 N/T trans wouldn't be able to hold the kind of power to run low 11's? From what I've read on here everyone seems to be very happy with the work either of these companies do with these trans'.

Obviously new pistons, springs, retainers, rods, cams and etc.. I've heard alot of good things about the BC items. Any other suggestions that you may be running in your car would help alot.

Going to need a new Clutch and Flywheel and was wondering if the ACT 2600 is alright to use because I've seen that a few people have had problems with them. If not how about the 2100? And the Fidanza lightweight 8lbs flywheel.

I'm going to wait to do the suspension work until the motor work and trans are done and sitting in my garage. I want to get new axels, struts, strut and sway bars, possible coilovers, big brake upgrade, brake lines, and stuff like that.

Well I guess thats it for now and I just want to say that I appreciate the help and all your opinions on everything. I know that I'll probably be flamed or made fun of for my lack of knowledge and that everyone is going to say use the search button. I did and I've read alot of threads on alot of different things but everyone always contradicts each other and and says that's not going to work or its impossible and stuff like that. I just want some help and opinions on which is going to be the best way to build a N/T into something I can bring to the Shootout next year and meet alot of you and say hey thanks for your help this is what came of it. Anyway I'm a DSM guy from here on out and perfer the look of the 1G:dsm: so I hope that being on here turns into something for the better.

5-angle grind has a better seal on the valve seats. You will gain a lot of torque by going with a stroker motor, definitely worth every penny there. I've heard a lot of bad things about tubular manifolds, and some good things...honestly, I would go with the race manifold fp sells, it's cast from the same material that turbo exhaust housings are.

I'd use a turbo tranny. Make sure you get some sort of lsd for it though, as you will have traction problems. As for a clutch...I bought mine off eBay, it's an xtr stage 3 and i ordered a fidanza flywheel with it...absolutely satisfied with both of them. The clutch holds a ton of power and you won't break your leg pushing the pedal.

It you're shooting low 11s and high 10s 2100 won't hold the torque and 2600 will do it w/ 6 puck sprung.

Just be aware if you buy the ACT 2600 clutch kit the throw-out bearing it unreliable. The throw-out bearing broke under 5,000 for both me and another person and our clutch pressure plate and flywheel were damage too.

id say go with an act 2600 or higher 2100 will not handle your goals. strocker motors are pretty dam nice ive been looking at one for awhiles and just really worried of spinning until 60mph would be a waist cause im fwd if i were you id buy a turbo trans 2600 and get turbo pistons and rebuild your block and get built head that way you can up grade to a strocker later on and if you plan on going with a 2.3l youd need is a 4g64 crank new pistons. and youd already have a built head also id go with something like a 20g turbo just in case you decide to go strocker later. spend money wisely so you dont have to do it twice
