I have put a post on here about car smoking blue /gray smoke. the car bottom end have 100 miles on it. the car was running fine till yesterday started it up the car smokes at idle and smokes really bad under boost and the car running rough like it is a misfire. if you give the car gas it has no power and seems to misfire and lots of smoke comes out of the car. i know the car is burning oil. if you rev up the motor you can see oil coming out of the turbo manifold were the turbo and manifold bolt together. i was thinking that the valve guide seals are bad. and info would be great.

This can be so many different things ranging from simple to serious. Were you boosting hard the day before? PSI? What were your EGT readings if you were boosting the day before. What do you hear (clanking, grinding, pinging, tapping) whie reving?

Lets start simple, check the compressor wheel of your 16g and make sure it doesn't have any shaft play (in/out or up/down). If it has a lot of up/down movement, this may be your probem and the seals could be bad. Make sure your o2 sensor is cycling normally and that your MAFS is hooked up too.

Make sure your base timing is set properly because a friend of mine had his timing so retarded that his engine began to melt from high egt's. He took his car to a repair shop for a tuneup and they adjusted the crank angle sensor without a timing light or grounding the proper terminals (they said it sounded better-go figure). You may also have jumped mechanical timing tooth on your camshaft sprocket, see if they line up properly.

Do a boost leak test also and see if you have any blow-by. Does your dipstick pop out while under boost? A compression check may also be in order followed by a leak down test if necessary. My friend had a hole in his piston and a boost leak test would pop his dipstick out.

Do you have a lot of oil residue in your UIP, intercooler, and intake manifold? Check the spark plugs too and see if the are fouled with oil or are white/red in color. See if there is any oil in your coolant (milky color).

Answer those questions so others can help you more efficiently.

I did check the i/c piping there was oil in the intake and inside the compressor so i changed the pcv valve, there is no coolant in the oil, there is oil on top of the psitons,i was running 10 psi until i break in the motor, the oil dipstick always pops up, the setup i have is wiseco pistons, manley rods, and a 2.4liter crank.also on my boost gauge the vac. go under 20 i don't know if that will help.i checked the turbo it has a little shaft play up and down not in and out, there is a ticking noise in the head which i think are the lifters. there also a whinning noise but that goes away when boost starts.the car is running like it has a misfire with no power, check the plugs yesterday they were really black a little oil on them, oil is coming out of the turbo manifold where the turbo and manifold bolt together, you give the car gas it stumbles like no power and give off a big cloud of gray/white smoke it smells like oil, the car smoke at idle hope that helps

Get a compression check on each cylinder (particularly the one with the oil on the plug) and if the compresson is low, follow up with a leak down test to see if the rings are good. Who built the motor? Drain your oil and check for metal shavings or brass sparkles (like metallic paint) in your oil. Do the aformentioned tests and get back with us. A reputable shop should do this with little difficulty, but I'd find a DSM motorhead in the area since I've learned to trust DSM backyard mechanics over the dealership and ASE certified specialists that don't seem to know anything about forced induction systems and how tempermental DSMs can be at times. Anyone in his area that can help?

i had one of my friends build it who works at mitsu. he just built the bottom end. i am doing a compression test tonight. i talked to my friend who builds dsm, evo's so forth but he lives in ohio. he was telling me that it my be my turbo or something to with valve seals or the rings are not setting the way they should.i will keep you updated on this
thanks again for all your help

Benefit of the doubt...I'll vote that the turbo is the culprit and screwing everything up from the intake to the plugs with oil spray from faulty seals. My friend's 300zx used to have a simiar problem and he smoked 3 lanes of a highway like "SpyHunter" when his turbo failed. Dangerous, but it was amusing to see 3 lanes of traffic stop because they couldn't see through the NISMO "pea soup." I wish you the best of luck...

i did my compression test was 140-160-155-150 i bought a cheap tester LOL i am going to pull off my turbo and replace it and see if thats changes anything thanks again for all your help i let you know what happens
