whats up everyone. ive been driving a 89 civic hatch for the last 5 years and drove a prelude before that. even before i was driving, i was the only one of my friends who loved eclipses, but i got stuck with a honda. i made the best of it, built it, had fun, and learned ALOT with it. so now, im finally going to my first love...LOL. ive dealt with alot of boosted hondas(mainly single cams), my hatch now is turbo'd. everytime i mention dsm in honda forums, everyone always says "ill become a better mechanic", "dsm's are nice.......when they are running", crankwalk this, crankwalk that, dsm tranny suck, they arent reliable, they are constantly breaking down....yada yada yada. i just figured id come straight to the dsmers about this stuff. any suggestions. btw...i just picked up a mint virgin 92 tsi awd!! what did i get myself in to?

A good platform for a honda eater..LOL. Seriously anyone who has a dsm that's "not reliable" or whatever is usually because they're a bad tuner. Start with maintance and work your way up. That's what I'm in the process of. Little pricey... but hey, ya can't take it with ya :thumb:

LOL DSM bashing. That's cool. I've had my car for a year and a half and not a single problem. You have to know how to drive awd and take care of them. Also a little luck is involved haha but Good luck smoking hondas. :thumb:

You got a great platform to start with as already stated. Dont worry about crankwalk, it is more common on 2g's but it still is not as common as most think. Good luck with the car and have fun

welcome to dsmtuners!! most of the problems people talk about with dsm's are because these cars are older than most and some people dont maintain them well. problems arent as common as they sound but theyre not unheard of either. if you have any tho, you'll find that there is a wealth of knowledge on how to fix your problems and maintain your dsm right here!!

I actually wanted to buy a CRX, but as soon as I test drove my Talon, I felt in love with it. Later on, when I thought about a fully build, turboed FWD CRX..... traction problems. AWD, and already turbocharged, just made me love it. NOW, I said it before and I'll say again: DSM made me... from a guy who doesn't know how to change his oil into... car that I almost put together by myself, with help of this website!!! Mad props to DSM community!

You got yourself into a nice vehicle; the 4G63 engine is one hell of a unit! I have owned my 97 GST for about 5 years and it has treated me very well. One alternator a couple years back and a thorough tune up (plugs, plug wires, O2 sensors, timing belt, water pump) this last spring is about the only maintenance I have needed. Preventative maintenance, i.e. timing belt, is important. One has to realize that these 1g and 2g eclipses are getting older and older parts do break; this is especially true when you start modding and running more horsepower. But the enjoyment from that turbo power has far outweighed any frustration from break downs.

+1 :thumb: although I haven't exactly put my entire car together I have learned more about vehicles thanks to my DSM! This site has a vast knowledge of DSM lore that is easily searched...welcome to the site!!

I find it hilarious how Honda guys' #1 argument is that DSMs always break. What? Is that the best excuse they can come up with? Its like they know what these cars are capable of and they can't think of anything else so I know we'll whine about how unreliable they are. Good thinking guys! :thumb:

Congrats on the new car!! First thing first, check the maintentance records for the car. Did the previous owner give you any? Was the timing belt replaced recently? If not, that should definitely be on your to do list. Change all fluids, plugs & wires, etc. One of the biggest mistakes new guys make is buying one of these cars and then just turning up the boost. Thats a fifteen-year-old turbo car you just bought... you need to do at least some preventative maintenance before you start modding. If you do that, you'll greatly reduce the chance of your car having any problems.

Hello Richie. Congrats on the purchase. I'm also from the Honda and Toyota crowd. Enjoy your DSM, learn as much as you can about it if you do your own maintenance, and kick some Honda ass if that's how you feel.....

Dual projector headlights, lowered, stock swirls, no tint, with some flip driving with sleeper exhaust?

Something like that, yeah. I gave him a thumbs up.

Richie welcome!!

Good to see you found an awd as your first dsm i was not so lucky. But if u havent already noticed this is the right place to start i picked my N/T talon up about a year and a half back and had no clue how to tune a 4 cylinder now some time later and alot of forums i know that this is the best site/group of tuners/ car lovers i have ever seen, and as for hondas well not much love sorry man, hondas are much like tampons every whiney girl was one and to be honest you cant talk to anyone in a fast honda civic mind u with out hearing the words motor swap or i love the k series but cant afford it.. LOL not bashing your hondas just pent up rage against the owners i have met or seen in the rear view
