with an intercooler kit do you have to rotate the turbo towards the ground. if so how

no, you buy intercooler piping that fits your turbo. For example, if you have a 14b, 16g, etc...you'd have to buy a j-pipe that bolts to the turbo and connects to your stock or aftermarket intercooler piping...if you have a 20g, 50 trim, or any downward facing turbo, you'd buy an intercooler/piping accordingly for a turbo that faces downwards.

You can't just rotate your turbo.

On most turbochargers, the snail housings can be clocked.

Yeah, the snail housings can be clocked but that is pointless if you have an upward facing turbo like a 14b or 16g because unless you are going to be welding your intercooler piping to your turbo, you will be out of luck with fitting intercooler piping to your turbo. There are some big turbos that face upwards where it would benefit to rotate them, but those are not very common.

Plus, if you rotated a 14b/16g variant, you would have to fab up a strong mount for the wastegate that now wouldn't line up with the flapper on the turbine housing.

It sucks that a neat idea becomes nearly impossible.
