ok knocking and ticking on my timing belt side doubt its the tensioner but i could be wrong,

could any of the pullys make this problem?

could the water pump be make a knocking noise?

could it be inside my motor?

please help me asap!

Ok thats not lifter tick, at least not like I have ever heard, but I can't say I know what it is.

Take a look at your crank pulley . Do you still have balance shafts in ? maybe bs belt broke and it is slapping around in there .

Its not an exhaust leak i dont think a leak would knock or tick and yes i still have the balance shafts is there a way i can check to see if the belt is broke without pulling the engine? The noise is coming from the middle to top area when your under the car you can tell that the noise is up top

If you need to check the balance shaft belt, you have to pull the lower timing belt cover. That involves removing the crank pulley, driver's side engine mount, A/C idler pulley, and water pump pulley. Full details are in the VFAQ under timing belt replacement.

i put the tire back on and took it off stands but i belive that the belt is there im pretty sure a belt wouldnt make this kind of noise

I would guess exhaust leak (a bad one), or something rubbing/flapping against the lower plastic timing belt cover. If it's a belt, it's probably only split or torn on one edge and slapping a cover; if it was completely broken.. well it would probably be gone and you'd have other issues (like no PS or A/C). If the BS belt broke, you'll have more vibration and possibly other/more serious problems, especially if there is a piece laying in the cover that could find it's way into the t-belt's path.

Run some Seafoam or do a smoke test to eliminate the exhaust leak possiblity... if not that, then you'll have to do some work like Quasi mentioned to get at the t-belt cover.


EDIT:

After some more listening, that really sounds like it's being created by engine air (exhaust leak, missing/broken spark plug :D, compression leak at the head, etc.)... at least on these cheap PC speakers.

How does the sound relate to engine RPM? Can you get more specific as to where the sound is coming from? (use a stethoscope or similar).

The sound is coming from the timing side so it could be spark plug in cylinder 1 or something along those lines its like a knocking noise and when you get on the rpms it gets louder but doesnt get faster as the rpms increase

Bling5Tatus that sounds very possible and thats what i had in mind im going to swap my old pullys from my other engine on and try it with those... i will get another video up asap for you guys i appriciate the help

Well had a mechanic of 40+ years come over and he said its a compression leak coming from my head around where the head gasket is... is t his possible? bad head gasket causing bad compression?

Ive got nothing to check compression with and have no money to go buy a tester so im not gonna test it im just going to pull the head and take the head to the shop but before i take it the mechanic wants to see my gasket when it comes off and im going to go from there calan so far you were right on the money thanks!

Well if it sounds like the compression is leaking at the head then its most likely a gasket or a crack in the head somewhere right?

I would just go pick up a compression tester. They are worth every penny. To pull the head off and get it machined will cost a lot more than $15 and you are not even 100% sure that its the problem. At least with a compression test you will be able to get a better idea of what is really going on in the motor.

What awdrst said... and it would probably more than likely be the gasket I would think.

I haven't had to look closely at one of our head gaskets yet (knock on wood), but with most common cars, a blown HG can cause all kinds of weird symptoms and noises. Water in the oil, oil in the water, both in both places, neither one in the other but losing compression, etc.

I even saw an HG once that was basically in two pieces when I pulled a head... and the motor was running perfectly with no apparent problems at all before I started tearing it down for some "upgrades".

Well ive pulled off most of the shit so screw the compression test im just going to pull the head off and have a mechanic look at it and ill go from there
