I have had my 7 bolt machined and have been told that the stock rods are ok but the bore eliminates the use of the stock pistons. the question i have is, if i put aftermarket pistons on stock rods, will i have problems. also if i put oem replacement pistons of .20 over in that block am i likely to have problems with running high boost. the crank is machined .10 over rod and main which as far as i know does not weaken the internals??? I plan on running 20-23 pounds with aftermarket head gasket and studs. i also already have fuel, boost controller and mods listed on my profile. i would like to do this as cheap as possible but i dont want to cut corners... ...aka i will spend the money if i have to but would rather spend less. thanks for the help!!!:dsm:

From personal experience get a set of Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons. You will wish after you build the motor and get it together and start boosting that you had done it. For the extra money it is definitely worth the extra insurance. Depending on what turbo you want to run 20-23 is ok on some smaller turbo's but with something larger I wouldn't wanna do it even though it can be done.

Stock 2g rods are thin. At least get yourself a set of 1g big rods. Aftermarket pistons aren't that great if you don't have rods to do with. Rods are weaker than the pistons.

Not useless, but why take everything back apart when you can go ahead and upgrade now. You are planning to go performance so why not build your engine so you have a good solid base to start from. This will save you alot of heartache in the long run when you do not have to look at a gaping hole in the side of your block where your stock rods blasted through.

im not neccessarily planning on going any more performance than i already have however if stock is not sufficient for what i already have i would rather know know before the gaping whole in my block:confused:

Well, as you already know, boost is addictive and more than likely the natural progression will be to get a larger turbo. So what I am trying to say is go ahead and spend a few extra bucks here rather than going through it again later on. There are plenty of people that have ran great numbers on stock internals but there are just so many variables to say "you need this part at this hp mark and it will last for X amount of time". I always tell people to build cars from the bottom up and this has always worked out for the best.

personally im building a fun daily driver so essentially im trying to build budget, as far as right now if its not fast enough i will sell it:(

would it be sufficient to do aftermarket rods and oem replacement pistons?
