My buddy has a 4g63 engine for sale(only block and head) but he doesn't know if its a turbo engine or not. I know its a 6 bolt , but thats it. Are there anyways to tell? and can a n/t engine be build into a turbo engine with lower compression rods and pistons?

The only difference is the fact that the n/t block has no oil squirters. You can put turbo pistons in, but the smart thing to do would to get forged internals (EVO internals would be one of the cheaper forged routes) as forged internals don't really need oil squirters.

thanks buddy. Love the avatar, every dsmer can relate to his car being put on the back of a tow truck. SO the n/t motor would just dip in to the oil to spread it as where the turbo has squirters im guessing......what do I look for when i open the block?....thanks

Yea, the squirters are the only real difference on the block. All you do is thread them in the holes for them to 24 ft/lbs and I would use loc-tite as well. If there aren't any you can tap and thread hoels in the n/t block which isn't really needed, it is all personal preference. If you are getting the head as well, the cams are different.

the head needs everything cams, valves, springs the works. Its a block and head that skipped timing. For 100 bucks I can't really go wrong

Not at all, no find some evo 8 forged internals for like 200 and you're good to go.
