hey guys im looking forward to getting a eclipse gsx or gst..preferably the '97-'99 models.
im leaning more twords the GSX, but gst is always a possibillity. i dont really know much about cars, i know the GSX is all wheel and Gst is front. im just curious as to which would be better, what are advantages of both and disadvantages. should i buy bone stock or with mods already.

advice would be greatly appreaciated, thanks guys!

well before you buy a dsm you need to realize what your getting your self into.
first of all, the search button is your best friend
second , your wallet is going to be empty owning a dsm
third, vfaq is your second best friend
and fourth, your wallet is going to be empty

now onto your ?'s..........firstly, from my personal experience it is very hard to find a stock gsx.

gsx = awd, which = your best choice for 1/4 mile racing
gst = fwd, which sucks off the line = not your best choice for 1/4 mile, rolling races are better with fwd
a gsx or gst should be good for autocross if thats what you like but of course awd will be better handling.
theres no such thing as a "better", we all got bad ass whips here, awd or not.
since you said yourself that you dont know much about cars, when u buy your dsm i would buy one that is COMPLETLY stock so you can understand what your doing to your car when you decide to modify it. whatever you do dont go out and buy a honda, just do some research, start with the tech section of this forum and go from there.
money + time + hard work + good times+ more money = Diamond Star Motors. just realize that.

It really all depends on what your long term goals are for your car. If you plan on drag racing or boosting over 300WHP then youll like the AWD that the GSX gives you to avoid wheel spin. If you just want a quick street car and dont plan on seriously modding it then I would go with the GST. GSX's can be hard to find and more expensive as well. As for buying a car already modded, its really up to you. First of all you dont really know if they did the mods the right way or not so that could cause problems down the road. But it is a big savings if you buy it already modded plus you dont have to do the work yourself. If you like doing the work yourself like most people on this forum then I would buy a stock car. This way you know exactly what has been done to the car and you know how to fix it if it breaks because you modded it.

T baby!! TTTTTTTTTT. Haha JK. I've seen numerous T's lose off the line and blow buy X's in top 2nd - 3rd gear. But I'm sure mods were different. You'll have fun with the X tranny's if you plan on going big time. 2 friends of mine have completely shattered theirs because it just can't take the amount of pressure slammed at it all at once. But if you can load correctly, then that's a different story. Everyone's opinion is going to be different, so just be prepared to hear 8 million different reasons why or why not.

Im more towards gsx because i own one. It depends if your going to put 300+ horse in either. If you plan on decking it out go for the gsx because its AWD and youll grab and run away from the competition

I think it's basically if you want 450+hp go with a GSX, anything below you'll be fine with a GST. I love my GST.

if this were to be a daily driver car like mine, i'd say go with the gst. you'll get a little bit better gas mileage. but if you want a track monster go awd. also if your area gets a lot of snow in the winter time awd ftw. i personally wish i would have gone with awd b/c my car sucks in the snow in the winter time around here, i don't take it to the track all that much, and i drive a lot on the highway so i factored that in when i made the decision to get mine.
