I just finished my 4g64 turbo project and I have one or two very small oil leaks. I am driving the car 200 miles to get it tuned. The 4g64 don't have a stock oil pressure gauge, eventhough the 4g63 are crap, so I thought getting one now would be a good idea because I always wanted one. I have been doing research and its sounds like different cars oil pressures are all different. Depending on the temperature, rpm, etc. How do you ever know that it is running right. Sould I get one or are they useless?

Good rule of thumb is for every 1000rpm you should have 10psi of oil pressure when the car is warmed up. That is why sometimes when you are idling you might only see 10-15lbs of oil pressure. I wouldn't hesitate to get one. I get a boost, water temp. and oil pressure gauge as the first 3 gauge's for any car I get. Who knows if those very small oil leaks all the sudden turn into big oil leaks and you start losing pressure. Better to know before you idiot light come's on because once that happens you are pretty much screwed already.

alright so I got the gauge hooked up. Now what do you look for if something is going wrong. A drop in oil pressure, but it moves all the time. A drop below a specific psi?

main thing i look for is idle pressure drop, then crusing pressure drop. yes you may have a problem before you see it on the gauge, but if seen in time you can stop other problems from occuring. what is your baseline pressure at idle after it is warmed up? should be at minimum 18-20. :dsm:

^^ I would say that it is either broken or not hooked up correctly. Otherwise you would definetly have some problems with 0 oil pressure LOL.
