I just wanted to know if its true,"you have to have an ignition amp. or else a COP set up is downgrading from the stock ignition set up"I just recently bought a set of coils to make my cop set up and Im debating if I want to use it or not? Id appreciate some input thanks!

There really isnt any point in using the coil on plug setup without an ignition amplifier. Stock ignition is plenty powerful by itself. I mean, it will work by itself, but it wont do anything for you except look cool under the hood.

The cop setup is good because it fires the spark without the resistance of wires (I`ve gone through 3 sets of wires before going to cop.) I like it because it looks cool, & requires no maintenence once it`s setup. Btw, you don`t need any type of msd or ignition amp to run a cop . . . :talon:

:thumb: Thanks, I've been wondering this for a while... RRE got mad at me when I brought up COP's they said it was a waste of $, I'll probably upgrade to a COP when my stock coil pack bites the dust

It IS a waste of money. There's no point in having one unless you're running some other type of ignition add on. Stock ignition is good for alot of horsepower. I run cheap ngk plugs and magnecore wires. I've had the wires for 2 seasons.

Sure, it'll work.......just like the stock ignition. But why waste the money?

Why would it be a waste of money when a new coil pack from mitsubishi is over $200 plus whatever new cables cost.
By using the coil on plug setup you eliminate the resistance caused by using spark plug cables thus you get a better spark. The only way it would be a waste of money would be if your coil pack and cables are still good, otherwise it would be a better invesement than getting a new coil from the stealership, not to mention it gives your engine bay a much cleaner look also.

COP are not a waste of money. They are more of a preferance than anything. They Look Awsome and are functional and close cost to 1 set of coils and 2 sets wires. The whole theres less resistance is true but idt doesnt make that big of a differance in our application. But it is nice to see COP loyalist and stock guys battle it out over this for the 5th or 5millionth time.

I personaly perfer
