I was driving home today and was pulling into traffic and next thing I know, it felt like the car hit a brick wall. Then all the way home after that, I could not get above 3 or 4 grand on the tach, and would max out my speed around 50mph or so. Although when I'm in neutral, it'll free rev all the way up. If I floored it, the car would stop once it hit a certain RPM and just sound like it was flowing a lot of air after that along with some stuttering. I know I have a big boost leak (my bov :notgood: ) but would that really cause my car to act the way it did?

If anyone needs some more info, let me know.

Im willing to bet on your ignition system. Either you fowled a spark plug, or your wires shit the bed. Go out and get some new spark plugs, gap them to .028'', take it for a test drive. If the problem is still there, go grab some spark plug wires. If it's STILL there, come back for the next round of pointers.

I pulled the spark plugs and they were blacker than black. I expected this as my A/F gauge was pegged at rich all the time (unless I wasn't on the gas pedal). I replaced them with some used 6ES's I had laying around. They were gapped properly. This did not change anything at all. I replaced the wires (with NGK's) about 3k miles ago.

I just installed DSMLink and adjusted it properly for the car setup if anything there might cause a problem.

It sounds like you've answered your own question. You have a huge boost leak which made your plugs go bad and now it's not running right. So do a BLT and fix the appropriate leaks.

I'm OP's brother. I just found one coupler that's leaking real bad. I'm going to fix it now. We can't fix the bov leak though, the bov is just bad. It will be replaced soon hopefully but in the meantime can the big leak from there do harm to the engine?

Boost Leak x 2. If your BOV is bad replace it with a 1G bov. You can get one off eBay for like $25. It's what I did and it fixed my problem. Tom.

Other than running rich and all the things that go with that (fouling, unburned fuel ending up in oil via blow by, etc) it won't immediately harm the engine. However, the turbo must work extra hard as a result of the leak so depending on the size of the leak turbo damage is a possibility.

Fix those leaks and then change the oil.

Is the BOV leak at the flange or past the valve itself?

I did a boost leak test. That's how I found out one of the couplers was leaking really bad. Soon, my brother is going to get an SSAC fmic with blow thru setup with a Tial bov. Right now he's got a vented Turbo XS Type H BOV (he bought the car with that setup). :notgood:

Thanks for the answer. Like I said, the new fmic setup should be in within a month so that eases my mind. The bov leaks past the valve itself so theres no way we can eliminate that boost leak.
