i ordered a garret big t28 yesterday, and i just want to know if i can run stock boost with no problems without any modifications? also if i wanna turn it up to say like 15-16 lbs what will i need~ besides a boost gauge and controller. will i need a new fuel pump or can i just do the re-wire?<<also what exactly does the re-wire do. thanks

You should be fine on stock boost settings with the t-28, however, you are pushing your luck.

You need all the supporting mods to be safe before you start upping the boost. The best thing for you to get is a logger and log your timing advance to see if you're getting knock. Boost should never be increased based on assumption that the car is getting no knock. You can do some major damage to your engine if you tune blind.

You will need a fuel pump, injectors, tuning device, logger, as well as the other supporting mods to tap into the turbochargers real power.

I wonder if Tiny Tim has any real power the mob can tap in to. ;)

I would strongly suggest porting the exhaust side of the turbo around the waste gate opening. You don't need to go crazy, just put a nice radius on the upper ridge of the opening to help exhaust gas flow, untouched that ridge is a serious restriction to flow out the WG.

I had a bit of a boost creep issue on my t-28 untill I ported it, I could set the MBC from 15-20 and it would hold boost no problem but I couldn't get the turbo to go lower then 15 psi. After the porting I was able to turn the boost down to 12 psi @ WOT @ 6k rpm but that was the lowest I was able to manage.

This little guy creeps but he hasn't got shit on the Evo3 16g, that puppy creeps like mad unless you do some heavy porting, say remove 0.5 lb of cast iron or so.

I would immediately cancel that order and get an EVOIII 16g, or take the restock fee hit. I know, people are gonna say it spools faster etc. etc. EVOIII 16g spools great, I spool at the same rpm as my old T28. I'm running without any porting of the wastegate and the most I creep is up to 20 psi at high rpms, but the initial boost is stable at 15 psi at mid rpms.

If your going to stick with the Big T28, then might as well order the FP 17 psi actuator, otherwise your going to get boost dropoff.

Fuel pump rewire would probably be sufficient for now, it makes a huge difference in terms of fuel flow.
