Hey everyone i have a 96 eclipse rs with 185k miles. I was thinking about rebuilding my head. A guy at the mitsubishi dealer told me that if i rebuild my head i would have to rebuild my bottom end too because then the "bottom end might go" if i dont. Now it seemed a fairly reasonable statement but i dont know. My car runs well but somtimes smokes when idling for a while or when i get on it hard at a stoplight or somthing of the sort and i know its the the head causing it mainly. (Brother put it in 2nd going 85 when it was his car when he was first learning to drive.) I took it too a dealer and he said there was "minor valve damage". So its mostly the head i think. I dont need it to be a monster, i am getting a awd turbo for that :thumb: . Anyway what do you all think. Would i need to rebuild both the head and bottom or would just a head do?

rebuild both the head and bottom end

WTF If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Pull your head and see what type of valve damage happened when your brother zinged the engine. If it is light damage (and the piston head looks good) I can't see why you would want to rebuild the bottom end, especially since you're not going to do any heavy driving with it.
