So my motor mount on the right side of the engine bay is barely hanging on. I want to replace all of the motor mounts because I was told it would greatly improve the performance of my car and with it having 130k miles on it I am sure they are all worn out. Now exactly how many motor mounts are their on a 96 AWD Talon/Eclipse? Extremepsi.com has prothane motor mount inserts. Are these what I am looking for? MachV.com has polyurethane motor mounts but say that "for 95+ cars, the front and rear mounts are inserts that work in conjunction with your factory mounts; you must have intact (not torn) front and rear mounts to install them". What exactly am I looking for and where can I get them at? I would like a good name brand not E-bay no names. Thanks.

Or pull them and do it your self. Get the Construction grade Poly Urethane Filler and do each mount yourself. It took me one whole tube and not alot of the second one. Remeber to a quarter inch at a time. For it will not dry out completely!

Prothane mounts

There are 4 mounts all together on the 1gs and 2gs but they are different.

On yours, the drivers side and tranny side mount you will work out and replace. The front and rear mount you use the prothanes in addition to the stock mounts. GREAT pieces.

There is a Tech article on how to get the stock mounts out. Its pretty simple.

I have had so many problems with my car from electrical to bolts snapping I will just have someone else do it for me and take the money hit. So I need to buy the Prothane mounts and no the other ones right?

Just get the Prothane inserts and make sure that your front and rear mounts are in good shape. As long as your front and rear mounts are in good shape than you wont need to replace them and have to spend more money.

Or you can get front and rear motor mount inserts (I have Energy Suspension ones, similar to Prothane) and get factory driver side and transmission motor mounts.

There are numerous tech articles out there but here are 2 that are really good. It isn't hard but it takes some time to get the metal ring out of the mount itself. Just be patient and try not to gouge the inside of the mount too much.

Yes, these are for 1G's but the process is the same. The only stock mounts that you will be 'gutting' are the drivers side mount and transmission mount on the passenger's side. The front mount (to the cross member) and the rear mount (to the body/firewall) just get inserts put in them. Make sure your stock mounts for those 2 are in good condition. Other than that, it should be pretty straight forward. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

dsm_racing - I assume you know that the kit is for a 1G (and your car you have listed is a 2G). I just want to make sure.

Please do, I'm pretty sure one of mine is bad and I will be replacing it soon.

I've actually already done it, but that first link seems to be right on and has lots of good pictures. It's not hard to do. The only thing I did differently, was instead of using a cutting wheel to get the old sleeve out like he did here, I used a sawzall like this to cut the sleeve into 3 peices and chiseled it out.

Yeah, but I already had the front and rear ones done with ES, so I only needed the driver and passenger side ones. The part numbers for those are the same for 1G and 2G, so I ordered the 1G kit and gave the parts I didn't use to one of my buddies with a 1G.
