I was just wondering i have 95 gsx and its spent most of its with its guts out than running on the road, reading these forums everyday i have realized that nobody's car is working.
I want someone to tell me how long there car has lasted on the road before it was back in the garage/shop/driveway and why.

I just want to see who has the longest running car.

its been 6 months and counting since i drove my gst :( now if i had someone else rebuild me engine it would have been like 1 month at tops! before that i had a water pump and clutch go out and drove it about 6000 miles till my oil filter housing broke, and goodbye said my engine.

well since a major break down when i lost my coolant on the freeway its been 1 year...its been down for a couple days during this year for electircal issues but thats all been fixed...so i guess about a year since any real problems. *knock on wood*

I've had my car for a year now and the only break downs I had were a failing starter (just needed new brush contacts) and recently the transfer case seized on me (due to the infamous leak) fortunately it un-seized itself the next day and I got it topped off with oil and been working fine ever since. Now my car has lots of problems but it's still running. Plus I got a new engine/exhaust/turbo system coming in soon :). Tom.

I have owned mine for almost 4 years and have never had it break down so bad that I couldn't drive it the very next day, if not hours after the incident. Basically the talon has made a fantastic daily driver for me to commute to work and back with.

I have went from 81k miles upon purchase to 123k miles as it sits right now in my driveway.

Well i traded my tacoma for 2 dsms. One a 97 GS never owned. spent a week in the paint booth and ao month in the shop. been driving it since about the first weekend in may...so far so good,,,do need CV joints though......the second one a 96 talon TSI...owned from 155000miles to around 168000 miles...got it back with 172000 miles and needs a new motor..which comes in a week so hopefully take a real dsm to the shootout

I have owned 5 DSM's, downtime maybe a TOTAL of 1 month. And all 5 have been built as well. My last 3 where down for maybe 3-4 days each building the motor then back running til I sold them. They are all still tooling around driving great.

The wifes 91TSI has 172K on it. The block has never been removed. The head has been rebuilt twice, First for a ballance belt failure and the second the Tbelt snapped. The only other major problem (witch turned out to be minor) was the ECU caps went out. Other than that 3K. oil changes and and general maintance.

If you don't F with it they will run for ever:thumb:

110k and still going! Had it for 4 years now. Stock block, head, trans. It has never "broken down" on me, That may change soon though (read-big turbo:sneaky: )

Got mine last august with 130k or so, drove it for about 2k miles and had a loud noise from tranny, replaced clutch(wanted new one anyways) was just a tob though, but had it down for about 1 month or so thinking it was tranny at first.
Drove it for about 5 months without any problems at all. Just did a 6 bolt rebuilt block swap with new turbo and fuel and everything. Got it back for 1 day. Next day started billowing white smoke. Ripped head of, not head gasket so off to the engine builder to check and replace or rebuild the head. Been about 2 months now during this whole build process. Gonna be a couple weeks more at least. Don't know if the head is even the problem or not yet. Really hope after this is finally fixed if it ever is that it will be somewhat reliable. Starting to wish I had a different car especially since this is my daily driver!
So far not including the car I have put in about 6 grand and still gonna have to rebuild the head probably

Mine N/T has lasted over 20,000 miles since I dropped a motor in it from AmericanEngineInstallation.com. Just recently had to put a clutch in it which took only a few hours. As for my Turbo....that is a whole new story. bought it for $300 with 2 bent valves. $400 later, it still is not running right and can't figure it out. That is why I am here :)

in august ill have had the gsx for a year and i bought it at 94,000 and at 107k i blew out the tranny and the 14b and the car went away for 3months...i got it back and put about 3500miles and now im leaking oil from everywhere and the tranny is leaking as well soo the car sits again and i dont no for how long i miss the boost!:toobad:

My car has not "broken down" on me (e.g. requiring a tow home / otherwise crippled) in 5+ years and I've made ~75 1/4 mile runs at > 350WHP levels. The last time it did was the cumulative result of abusive launches that resulted in ejected drivetrain parts which I've since replaced with better parts :)

Then again I've had it sit for a month+ while doing winter projects/routine mantenance since it's not my DD :dsm:

recently the transfer case seized on me (due to the infamous leak) fortunately it un-seized itself the next day and I got it topped off with oil and been working fine ever since
Be careful, mine did the same thing, but the tranny shop that looked at it afterwards showed me the internal carnage and noted they'd never seen a bearing so fooked up in a running car before and now adorns their wall of shame :dsm:

Since I purchased my car, the only time I haven't been able to drive it is when I'm "upgrading", other than that, no failures! :) 300+ awhp

Mine has been out of commission since i got it, 35,000 miles with bad tranny go figure, anyway i'm doing a manual conversion and replacing everything so far agx's, brembo rotors, cheap xtd clutch, synthetic oil, new belts, well except timing belt, new tires, and other stuff and i hope this is the last time i open it up like this, because my go is 300+ horses.

Since i got it in December it moved for 2 days and hasn't moved again.

Been daily driving my car since i bought it bone stock in november of 2003. It now has a 6 bolt swap, big turbo, cams etc and it's still daily driven (its my only car) and has never left me on the side of the road. It's all about putting the car together right. Car is making around 320awhp the way i drive it daily on pump.

baught mine with bad intake gasket. fixed that and broke 2 months later. i did timing wrong (got lazy and eyeballed the cam gears) and broke a valve. replaced head and 1 piston and ran for over a year till clutch went out at 142k miles. replaced that and sold it. kid that baught it broke the clutch 2 weeks later. read his stories of kills on the local forums. aparently the clutch didn't like 5k dumps !! LOL

she was a great daily. clutch was only problem . the rest was me being stupid

I bought my GST back in September last year... I spent first month doing the maintenance that probably the previous owner never did... You know, timing belt, spark plugs, cleaning injectors, new oil, fuel and air filters, new tires...

Then I took it to my mechanic for one day to get it prepared for the yearly smog revision in February... has been running good since then...

However I'm getting prepared to re-build my engine in the next two months probably...

I bought my '97 TSi AWD new in October, 1996. I put 78k miles on it before the T25 let go, and there was no downtime with it that whole time. After I put the FPB28 on, it's been running without any problems other than a CAS, but I could still use the car. I've taken care of it, and it really hasn't let me down.

The only downtime ive ever had was waiting on parts!.. i always have to WAIT forever..its soo frustrating.

My galant Vr-4 has been parked -while in my possession- since I bought it about a year ago. The guy before me bent some valves (go figure..) and left it for dead..he had just bought an audi s4 and just left the galant..I think he said it had sat for just over a year.
(I am currently rebuilding the motor, and everything else needed..going to college and working next to no hours turns a could be short project into a verrry long one)

So for a grand total, almost 2 years. The only time i have driven it is from when we transferred it from garage to garage via towstrap.
