I just got my car back from the shop...... I had to tow it. It turns out that something has gone out in my trans. I dont know what yet, I still have to open it and check it out, but the case might be cracked. But my question is will a 92 FWD trany from a 7 bolt motor bolt up to my car? I dont know if its coming off a turbo, because I have a GS-T, but I know at least some 1st Gen's came with non-turbo 4G63T's. Are they the same Trans? Im asking becasue there is a 92 FWD trany for $250. so it might just be easier and faster to swap a trany than replace the broken parts in mine (if the case isnt cracked), and buy and install the new part.

Thanks,
logan :dsm:

You can install a 2G trans in a 1G with minor modifications, but a 1G trans in a 2G will not work. The 1G trans doesn't have the engine mount mounting points on it like the 2G does, so if you pop a 1G trans in there, you will not have a front or rear engine mount. You can, however, swap the guts from the 1G to the 2G, but it can be tricky though and should be done with someone that has experience. The shift rails, for example, might need the lower shift shaft fork swapped out to the rails from the donor unit. The NA trans does have a lower gear ratio over the turbo, but if money is tight, it will work.
