I replaced the head on my 95 talon. 2.0T 4G63 and the car wont start. I have Arp headstuds, cometic headgasket, all new seals.

i just did the tests and here are my results

Cyclinder # 1-----(1st try) quickly hit 80 slowly went to 90
(2nd try) " " hit 25 " " went to 35

Cyclinder #2------(1st try) quickly hit 65 slowly went to 80
(2nd try) " " hit 25 " " went to 30

Cyclinder #3-----(1st try) quickly Hit 15 slowly went to 29
(2nd try) " " Hit 14 " " went to 27

Cyclinder #4------(1st try) Read zero on my gauge
(2nd try) Read zero on my gauge

LEAKDOWN
cyclinder 1---air seemed to be coming from oil cap (bad rings)
faint sound from exhaust (bad exhaust valves)

cyclinder 2-- couln't hear anything

cyclinder 3-- faint sound from oil cap

cyclinder 4--air from oil cap
air from exhaust

now this is my 1st time doing both so the reading may be a little bit off. but when you do the leakdown and listen for the air from the intake, can you remove the BOV and listen that way?? If you can...I had air POURING out of that hole but i think i may have opened the valves a bit.

any one have any opinions on what may be wrong. Im getting mixed reading and signals???? thanks for any help

Looks like the timing is off a tooth. Put the engine to TDC and make sure all the timing marks line up.

well from previous post's and research i was told it may be
1.) the head not seating right due to the guiding dowes not being shaved and fitting properly
2.) bent valves
3.) rings

but the tests are a little inconclusive and im sort of confused by the readings. any other ways to check if its one of the three??

Just use common sense. It really can't be option 3 because what chances in hell that ALL FOUR piston ring sets are shot at the same time?

bent valves can definitely be a cause of your low compression. Especially if you kept cranking the car a million times to try to make it start. The CORE problem to something like that is most likely bad timing. As someone said early, go back and realign to TDC and see if your timing marks are all lined up.

Lastly, the head can be slightly lifted if you did not install it correctly. On the bright side, it takes a retard not to notice a head isn't sitting correctly. the dowel pin that sticks up is about a 1/4" in height and if the head was sitting on it, you'd definitely notice (or at least I'd hope you would!)

In any case, since you've done the necessary steps, I would recommend going back and removing the head and have a look-see at what was going on there.

ya true. thats a good point blacnnspooln....but i didnt put the new head on. i brought it to a mechanic and i got it back and he said that he did all the tests ( comp and leakdown ) and got low comp. on all cyclinders. ( 25psi ) but my reading were different.

HE said it was DEFF. the dowels not lining up and not sleaing the head properly.they need to be shaved down to fix the gap and another 600$ and he could fix it........yeah, i was already 1500$ into it...
( the heads not "sitting on the dowels" and 1/4'' up, but they werent shaved to accomidate for the loss of material on the shaved head.....??)

but i'll tripple check my timing. i did before but theres probably something im missing. thanks

I checked the timing agian and when my cams are in time...two marks pointing eachother... my crank pully is lined up with the timing mark that says IT not BTDC
( picture below, not the best ). where should it be pionting??
and the oil pump is hard to see but i think thats on time. i did another comp. test and still the same its was 90-65-30-0. which leads me back to thinking the head isnt sitting right.
