Well a breif intor:
My name is David, and i am an auto tech at a small shop in lancaster, PA

I got a call from the owner of a 92 Talon FWD 5spd Non turbo. He needed his car towed, it would not start. Well i've had the car for about 2 weeks (most of the time waiting for parts to come in)

At first diagnosis, no spark. Checked the power transistor. It was bad... ordered that. installed. still no spark, but i did get a CEL. Read codes, and came up with code 22 (Crank Angle Sensor circuit error.

Replaced Crank sensor with new reman unit.
still no spark.

Pulled ECU to back probe some wires. Found it was rebuilt by Auto ECU. called them up, it was rebuilt in 03 for crank angle sensor circuit failure.
So we sent it to them for a testing, and repair if ness. well the CAS circuit was bad, again.

Got the ECU back, and guess what........ NO SPARK!!!
retested the CAS , and i was getting no signal out of it( new unit) we then got a new one on warranty. put it in........... and holy sh*t.................................... NO SPARK!

here is the kicker.... i removed the CAS , pulled a wire, and spun the CAS by hand.... I GOT SPARK!!!
so got cocky and put it back in, and now i have no spark again.
so what i am dealing with is that if the CAS is not mounted (ie in my hand) it will produce the spark i need.

if it installed, it will not.

Has any one ever seen this before. what is my next step. i am officially getting frustraded with this car..... I do not want to lose a customer, but i'm getting close to towing this to a dealer ship.

any help is appreciated.

if you have time and are knowledgeable, please feel free to call me on my cell or at the shop

Well, if you are looking at this, please don't respond.

I have established the cause of the no start.

the Timing belt lost a multitude of teeth. When the starter is engaged, the bottom end is the only thing turning. And, since these are crash motors, 10 valves are bent. On some of them i can remove the rockers with the cam lobes up. ROFL

So yea, that's what i got. If anyone has this issue pull the CAS, verify the cam is turning with the engine, if it is not, check to make sure the belt isn't trashed. This car has 225XXX miles on it. i do believe this is the original belt......

Have a good day every one, and have fun with the DSM's
