1G Boost leak?

I drive a STOCK 1g TSi.. And when I start my car from sitting over night or a long period of time, I hear something being "sucked" in, like an intake or something of that sort.. Like a crinkling noise? I don't seem to be losing power, but I took her to the track today, and well, I didn't do what I should have done.. times were worse than before, and this is after I had fixed my car (clutch master cylinder and CV shaft).. Just wondering if it could be a boost leak? Or just paranoia, after all, she is a DSM =] Haha..

A very good way to find out is to do a boost leak test.
 
Yeah, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Any advice on doing one? Never done one, haven't had to..

The funny thing about boost leaks as you often don't realize you have them.

Make a boost leak tester. There are several designs, but the one with the short section of hose, PVC endcap, tire valve and hose clamps is the easiest and cheapest. The hose has to fit your compressor inlet, the PVC endcap has to fit inside the other end of the hose, and the hose clamps have to fit around the hose and tighten it down to the PVC and compressor inlet. Drill the right size hole in the endcap for the valve, use some metal washers with rubber washers between them and the endcap to seal it up and a nut that fits the threads of the valve to clamp it all together on both sides. So you'd have nut, metal washer, rubber washer, PVC, rubber washer, metal washer, nut.

I've heard of so many different ways of doing them..

The hard part for a lot of people is getting a threaded tire valve. I stopped by a bicycle shop and the guy gave me a bad road bike tube for free. It was the weird (forget the name) smaller valve, so I bought the adapter to the "normal" (schrader?) fitting for $1. The stem had enough threads to get the washers, nuts, and PVC parts all on there and still get a compressor on the tip. Just had to cut the valve off the tube and shave all the rubber off the end of the valve with an Xacto knife (was molded into the rubber tube).
