wideband to replace narroeband oxygen sensor, can this be done?

Hi, I've tried scearching for the awnser but, no luck (maybe I'm wording it wrong) I would like to know if I can replace my narrowband o2 sensor with a wideband o2 sensor, will the ecu understand the the wideband signal or will I have to just put it the manifold with the narrowband sensor?
 
It can be done but you have to have an aftermarket wideband controller. Widebands are 0-5v signal and norrowband is a 0-1v signal. A lot of widebands will have a 0-5v output for you wideband use and they will give you a 0-1v output also that mimics the narrowband signal for the computer.
 
I concur w/ wt71gas. In fact I'm running my LM-1 wideband daily. It has a "narrow band" out put that I tap into my wiring harness. I can see my A/F ratio on the fly and a bosch wideband sensor itself is in fact cheaper than a narrowband replacement:thumb: .
 
Like others have said, it can be done if you controller has the proper NB voltage output (some don't come with this) but most manufacturers don't recommend placing the sensor closer then 36"s from the head/turbo because WB sensors tend to have a shorter life when exposed to high heat, such as what you would get with our factory front O2 sensor placement. With that being said I do know of a couple who have run it in that location for a summer or two & they still seem to be working correctly.
 
HUMMM. i might need a O2, wonder if i can find the Bosch sensor with narrow output and instead of buying a guage wiring it to my DATALOGGER and view the setting there. that way i can log too? i think MMcD 18 has this feature, or so i think i read....i'm off to do some homework, and use the search feature

cool!! I have a AEM wideband controller with both. I didn't know if that would work or not :thumb:

I'll be doing this in the next week or so, I just have to wait for the bung to get welded on the DP. I picked up the AEM UEGO from Extreme MotorSports. They price matched another vendor so I got about $22 off their advertised price.

Anyway, it comes with a gauge, bung, wire taps, O2 sensor and has a 0-5V analog output. My understanding is that you can't use this particular WBO2 to simulate the front O2, because I don't think it has a 0-1V output. I'm going to wire up the 0-5V output to the rear O2 sensor input at the ECU. Although the ECU will only recognize a 1V maximum at the rear O2 sensor input, that still gives you an AFR range of 10:1 thru 12:1. That will be sufficient since I'll only be looking at the logger diesplayed AFR at WOT. ("shout out" to Mr. Paul Volk for telling me that you can do this :thumb: )

Then you just have to look at the voltage on the logger and convert to AFR. Hopefully the CEL doesn't come on. :)

EDIT -> I have been trying to get the guys at PocketLogger to input a calculation in the program so the logger will automatically perform the voltage -> AFR calculation. They have been ignoring me for about 8 months. I even offered to pay. :(
