im in the prosses of rebuilding my 7-bolt engine and im now to the point were i have to deside what i want to put in it. im just looking to build a good reliable block that i can DD with all the mods in my profile.

i just got my engine back from the machene shop and this is what im working with:
everything hot tanked
standerd micro-polished crank
standerd pistion (oem)
decked block
new valves and seals
replaced freeze plugs

my biggest consern is what beaings should i use? im leaning to ACL race series rod and mains, but want some other opinions first.

i also want to know what gasket set is recomended, im looking for a complete kit for the block and head. but i will be using a mitsu metal HG, and arp head studs.

i heard that clevite stoped makeing tri-metal bearings, so i was trying to stay away from them. and OEM are a bit expensive.

has anyone had bad experience with ACL race series tri-metal bearings, im really looking for something that will last a long time.

I've personally been bias towards Clevite as I have used them on SBC builds in the past, and they have worked great with no problems, but they were tri-metal. Now working with Mitsubishi motors I have jumped ship to ACL because I don't trust aluminum. I don't care if it is from a brand I have always trusted, aluminum by itself is not a metal I trust. This is mainly because it does not have a fatique limit.

This means with every cycle aluminum will lose a bit of its strength. And high cyclic loading does not take much time in an automobile engine. To simplify things, it is the same concept as aluminum rods.

Oddly enough, I don't see them listed on Summit Racing's website for 4G63s anymore...

This is all taken that you don't want the OEM bearings due to cost. I have found true to most things, the people that know your engine best are the people who built it in the first place. However, they don't always share what you do in mind for the use of the motor.

As for gaskets, a simple OEM engine overhaul gasket set from any major DSM supplier should do you fine. They are more expensive, but are more sure-fire.

Lastly, I believe the ACLs are made in Australia and the new Clevites are made in China. Someone correct me on this if I am wrong.

ACL race bearings are the only tri metal one out there....besides Calico which are pretty much coated ACL race bearings. Go this route. ACL race or calico if you feel like paying the extra, you will not be dissapointed..
