I just replace my 1996 ECU MD321912R with a 1999 ECU MD359403 and the car cranks but wont start. when I connect the old it starts fine. I replace them to fix my emission problem.

Why there is a letter "R" at the end of the 96 ECU part no. sticke=-*?

Also code reader shows code P0446 with the new ecu but not the old one.

Open up the ECU you bought and make sure there's no leaky capacitors. If you bought it from a junkyard this is a high possibility.

-If you know the ECU is good and it's compatible with you car, Move on and check the basics : make sure you are getting fuel, spark etc..

It's a very bad idea to buy ecu's without opening them first and checking.... just a heads up for those that don't know....

Also, it's kinda funny, I bought a perfectly good ecu from the jyard before for 15 dollars, no warranty.... because I told them it was leaking on the capacitors and needed to be rebuilt. Hahaha. Oh, no threadjack meant, but my friend also got an external wg from a porsche for super cheap by telling them it was a smog pump or some jazz like that.... hahaha.

Theres a difference in 97-99 and 95-96 ECU's. To make it work you need to swap the plug wires. Swap 1 with 2 and 3 with 4.

Genius!!!!!!!!! just did abd kaboom. puuuuuuuuuuuring lke a kitty! thanks!

code p0446 shows in the computer. any thoughts?

P0446 CEL - EVAP Emissions control system vent control circuit malfunction.
