i ordered a new rack and pinion this morning and have to install it over the weekend, i was wondering howi go about doing this, does the engine have to be removed, and about how long should this take? all help will be greatly appreciated :)

i have one, but its rather vague about what needs to be done, i just want to know how indepth the work will be, engine removal etc.

I changed the Rack in a TSi AWD and it wasn't that bad. All I had to do was remove the transfer case, downpipe, and bang my head on things a lot. You shouldn't have any issues. Make sure that the steering wheel is straight and everything lines up when you put it back in. You can remove the steering wheel if you must when you put it all back together in order to get the wheel to line up right.

you dont have to remove the motor it just drops out the botom of the car just make sure you mark the sterring coulum where it seperates and dont turn your sterring wheel while its out of the car.

hey guys just poppin in to let you know the rack and pinion swap went smooth, did it on sunday, and truth be told i spent more time chillin with my friends then workin, it was way easier than it seemed, the wost part was gettin the car high enough on the jackstands :) only advise i can give is be careful when you disconnect the ps lines, mine filled with air when removed. just finally had it aligned today and is runnin smooth thanks again for all the help :)
