Ok so the day is finally here and I'm on tuners at 2:00 in the morning trying to get over this insomnia shit, I'll be the proud owner of a 1995 GST tomorrow morning. I need some help and tips from you guys because this is my first turbo car.

Here's the scenario:

(1.) The car has been sitting for 6 months because the seller removed the fuel rail and installed it on his other GST so it's stored at a tow yard and I still can't believe I got this unbelievable deal

(2.) The only thing the car needs to run is the fuel rail, plugs and wires according to the seller.

I need suggestions on what to do about this situation. I'll be bringing a replacement fuel rail and injectors that I got from a buddy and I'm hoping to drive the car home instead of having it towed. What things will I need to do before attempting this task? I have the plugs and wires too but since the car hasn't been driven in so long can you guys tell me how to go about this. My thoughts were that the oil should be changed and the fuel should be replaced with new fuel before the car is driven but I want everyone's advice first. Now I know a fuel rail shouldn't be too hard to replace but after doing my research it seems as if I'll need to replace a few things first, things like the o-rings, insulators etc.. I need a lot of advice on this.

I will post a lot of pics in the morning also.

The first thing you check is the oil if you will be driving it home.

The fuel doesnt have to be change, even if it been sitting for more than a year. If you want to change it, then go ahead.

Be sure to check if the radiator fluid, clutch fluid, break fluid, and steering fluid. check them before you drive it.

Good luck with your new car.:thumb:

Check anything made of rubber, i.e. belts and lines. Critters have a habit of making nests or homes as well in weird places in a car so look aorund for something like that. Please go and chec the brakes and make sure the lines are not bad and the calipers are not seized up.

Great find and good luck

Hell, even if you had to tow it home... what a great deal! Is the interior intact and in good condition?? (You don't have to answer that... i'm just dreaming of finding something like that myself... maybe in a drop top version). :D

I would definately have a back up plan as well. All you have to go off of is the sellers "word" it is going to start. As stated, still a good deal if it has some issues.

I personally would tow it home and start messing around with it there. Its a lot easier to work on something when your at home with all your tools and where you wont be in a rush to get it started just so you can get home. Bad things can happen when you rush them with a new car. Other than that good job on snagging such a sweet deal. :thumb:

I agree with Cs4g63 if something did happen along the way home you'd still end up with the expense of a tow, plus it would definetely sour your thoughts of your new car. How many miles are on the car? One thing I would check is the harmonic balancer. They crap out on our cars all to frequently. I'd also be alittle concerned that the owner didn't think it would be worth repairing and selling for a more reasonable price (from his stand point) The ancient Roman's had a saying of "Caveat Emptor" it means "let the buyer beware."

Ok, so I didn't get a chance to pick up the car yesterday. It was a crappy day because of the much needed rain here in south FL. So I'll just have it towed home instead because I think he said the tie rods/front ball joints are bad too. Looks like I'll have my work cut out for me. Hopefully, this doesn't end up costing me more money than I intend to invest in this car. I'll be leaving in a few so I'll post pics and stuff once I get back.

Any other things to look for while I'm there?

The harmonic balancer goes bad on all of these car's if it goes, there is a high probability that you'll have valve damage. How many miles does this car have? The timing belt needs replaced every 60,000 miles. I'm sure it will need a new battery since its been sitting so long. Wret is the man when it comes to questions on the suspension, you might want to PM him and see if he'll give you any other pointers on the suspension, it seems kinda weird that the tierods are bad to me. I think there was a recall on the ball joints, but my memory is going in my old age. I'd do a compression check to see how the engine internals seem to be holding up too after you get it running. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we'd all like to see some pictures of this car. Good luck man!

do a very thorough check of the hole car. Battery, plugs, wires, fuses, rotors, pads, tires. You dont want to be driving something that may be a hazard to your health or that of other drivers on the road. But even replacing all these things and the tie rod ends you still have stumbled upon an amazing deal. Good luck

Ok, I went to look at the car this evening and boy this car needs work. The paint is shot and will need an immediate paint job before I'm caught driving this thing on the streets but as I said it is a "project". The car will be towed home tomorrow because it's not driveable in it's state.

I was able to kill two birds with one stone by actually picking up a fuel rail and injectors from my buddy who lives in West Palm Beach too for $10. Pics are below:

Now here are some cell phone pics I took, I forgot to bring my camera as you can see the difference in the pics with the fuel rail/injectors. Opinions are welcome.

I wanted to add some more pics but I get a message saying that "I've exceeded my quota". What kind of dumb shit is that? Why cant people post as many pics as they want.

Anyway, the motor was very dirty and need a wash/degreasing.

Things that need to be done:

Change Oil.... (Is 10w-30 ok?)
Flush Coolant
Replace spark plugs with BRP6ES
Replace Valve cover gasket
Replace spark plug wires (Are Accel wires fine?)
Install the upper intercooler pipe which is missing in the picture
Install fuel rail/injectors (installing new O-rings on the injectors)
Clean interior
Replace upper control arm ball joint or the entire control arm

I'll be doing all of this just to make sure the car is running. Please help me with other things I can do at the same time.

I will try to upload more pics tomorrow (or replace the cell phone pics) once I get it towed home tomorrow.

And by the way after seeing the condition of the paint and such I was able to talk him down to $625, so I think I should edit my topic title. He signed the title over already and gave me the keys. And by the way this guy has another GST with mods already so he knows his shit and seems like a legitimate/honest guy. Still can't believe I got this deal but I wanna make sure it runs first before I get my hopes up. He also promised me over the phone that if it doesn't run after installing the needed parts he'll refund my money so I made it part of the "contractual Bill of Sale" which we both signed.

First dont use swear words in your posts otherwise the moderators will warn/block you.

Use NGK plugs and wires they are the best for our cars...I believe the wires are a little pricey as compared to some but well worth it. Make Sure when your doing the valve cover gasket that you replace the spark plug rings and the cam plug under the valve cover also. They should all come together as a set if you buy them from autozone or whatever. Since you are going to have the valve cover off you should replace the pcv valve with a new oem one...very simple...unscrew old one and screw in a new one. But remember that it is threaded at an angle so dont try to force it in otherwise you will ruin it. Also if you are thinking about modding this thing which im sure you are replace the stock lifters with the revised 3g lifters while you have the valve cover apart so you dont have to replace the gaskets again.

Alright thanks man. Yeah I have a list gathered for Autozone/Advance tomorrow. Let me know how it looks. I'm not looking to mod this car yet since it's my project and I'll be taking my time with it, maybe a few months down the road. I'm focused on doing maintenance first and then cosmetics (2GB conversion, new paint, leather interior, new carpet, replacing missing panels and sound system etc..)

NGK BPR6ES plugs
Accel Spark Plug wires
Oil and filter
Coolant/Antifreeze
VC Gasket set
Oil Pan Gasket
Degreaser
O-rings
HDR (Home Depot Racing) injector insulators - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234729
Clamps
PCV Valve
Miscellaneous stuff

Great find, and again just make sure you do all the small stuff first. Check all the belts and make sure they arent worn at all and replace them if needed. Take the upper T belt cover off just to check and see if it looks half decent but i would still recommend replacing the timing belt no matter what the seller told you. Since you said the upper IC pipe was missing i would suggest just getting a hardpipe if you planned on modding anyways down the road just to save yourself a few bucks.

Tsk tsk... why didn't you tell me about your new "project"? You know I'm always down to help out with a project car.

I I'Med you earlier son. I kinda wanted to surprise you since you know I've been looking for a car for a while now. Wanna help out tomorrow? The more hands the better especially with your knowledge of these cars.;) :)

You know, I though about the hard UICP but because he's giving me the stock piece and I wanna get it running by tomorrow so I'll leave it as is for now.

Great deal, for that much money you can hardly find a 1G shell in worst condition then that around here. Now its time to mod it. DSMs are money pits, but what can I say... BOOST is addictive :).

I bought a car sitting for 8 months, so far (after it was towed home for free via AAA) I drained the gas, and pulled the motor, I'd defintly reccomend draining the gas, most people I talk to say gas starts to break down in a month.

Just my thought's you might want to replace the thermostat if your going to be doing general maintenance, I got my GST that had not been ran for 1 yr and got about 12 miles down the road and it started to overhead because it was stuck in the open position just my 2 cents ........ Nice find BTW and good luck! :thumb:
