oil on spark plugs [Merged 11-7] oily wire wires cover valley well wells

now i was the one that put the bosch platniums in my car and they ran way too hot and i think i burnt a hole in my piston when i took the bosch's out the first plug on the left side was just drenched in oil and the the other's were dry now i put the other original plugs back in ran it then pulled that same plug on the left side and again drenched in oil and the other's are dry does this mean i actually did put a hole in the piston or could it be somthing else?

I'll take a guess here...There are a total of 5 gaskets under your valve cover. One around the whole cover and 4 individual ones where the spark plugs are. So my guess is that the one where all the oil is going into needs to be replaced. Thats my .02 but I would get another opinion. Best of luck.

Is the oil on the bottom of the plug or is it around the threads and on the top?

Question Oil burning, found in spark plug well

My Talon is running great, but when I first start the car and give it some gas going into reverse or first gear for the first time, a get quite a bit of white exhaust smoke, which I can tell is oil from the smell. I also get the smoke after giving some gas after idling for quite a while, such as a long stop light. The turbo is not leaking oil, I know this for sure. I noticed that in my #4 spark plug well, there was quite a collection of oil around the plug. I took the plug out and the oil went into the engine, causing massive amounts of smoke for about 10 minutes after I started it back up. After that it ran normal, but it did not fix the problem. I am guessing that this is the cause of my problem, and I am asking for suggestions on what the cause might be. I have heard it could be the valve cover gasket, bad piston rings, bad valve guides, etc. What should I check first, and where should I go from there? I'm pretty low on money, so the cheapest solution first and working from there is what I would like to do.

Thanks
Dave

Probably a ring or a seal most likely.

-Motor oil build-up in the spark plug well is the sign of the bad valve-cover seal, the seal come as a set of the big retangular seal and 4 2" round seals for the spark plug wells.
-If burning oil, smoke has a blueish color, the exhaust has a distinct smell and burn your eyes slightly, I would guess more on the worn valve seals, they're not too difficult to replace, check VFAQ.COM for direction. Do a compression check to narrow down the source.

oil in plug

Hello all,

I just finished my very first job. (wires and spark plugs) While i was breaking my arm patting myself on the back I noticed some oil on the second cylinder spark plug. The car was hesitating and running rough at low rpm's which is why I changed the plugs and wires. It is also blowing oily smoke. is this a ring or a cylinder problem?

I could use all the help I can get.

I just tried to read posts and the website and figure it out any help would be appreciated.

I just did my wires and plugs.. Notice that the plugs were fairly loose.. Also some oil from valve cover... Took 20 minutes to change plugs and wires...One wire was white in the plastic boot area of the plug side... No wonder it missed!!!

My car blows white smoke! Is there a fix?
From an October 10, 1998 post by David Gawlowski:

"[This is] ...caused by water evaporating in the exhaust stream. Occasional puffs [are] usually from condensation in the exhaust pipes (especially in humid areas) or a water balloon up your stove-pipe. Continual white smoke [is usually due to] a warped head/head gasket and coolant entering your combustion chambers. If you're really unlucky, might be from a cracked head."

Some people have reported that high boost levels may promote white smoke, for some reason. Turning the boost down some cures the problem. This might be related to worn out seals on the turbo, which can leak oil into the exhaust. A bad brake booster can potentially let brake fluid into the vacuum line, which also produces white smoke.

Thanks for your research.

I also read this post to on the site but my car is running extremly rough at low rpms and idle. At about 3000 it starts to operate normaly until it comes down again. Then the same old rough running loss of power smoke blowing aggravation.

All ya have to do is take off the valve cover to get to the seal, just becareful not to over torque the bolts when putting it back on, the stupid things crack easy and you'll just have another leak to worry about
