boost leak cause over boosting?

Alright i just installed a big 16g into my 1998 eclipse gst. I rigged up some intercooler piping and i know its leaking however i am still building boost. I am hitting almost 20lb of boost and my pipes are blowing off. My car is sooooo slowwww even though i am building boost. The question is will a major boostleak cause you to over boost? The air is leaking through my piping so it still flows with no problem.

If not what could be the reasons for my overboosting?

I have 2.5 downpipe, 3 in all the way back with highflow cat

for starters, you own a DSM. DO NOT RIG ANYTHING!! These cars are very touchy (so to speak).. Over boosting? Is your wastegate actuator hooked up to the correct vacuum line? That would cause more or less "unlimited boost". Is your aftermarket boost gauge tee'd into the right spot to get an accurate reading?

now that you mention it.... i might have the lines flipped to my mbc.. and that would be my problem.. i feel like a newb.. FLAME

alright, i removed my mbc and its alot better however i am still getting high boost 15+

will a boost leak cause over boosting?

Does it matter how long the line from the wastegate to the jpipe is?

no a boost leak will not cause overboost( spike) a boost leak will show up on a boost gauge as negative decent . i.e if you set your target boost at 15psi, if you had a boost leak you would not be able to reach 15psi, or if you did then it would drop down bellow 15psi.

boost creep....the stock o2 housing is too restrictive and backs up into the flapper when the flapper opens...
if all else fails get a o2 housing with the external dump....PROBLEM SOLVED.
