Scarborough,
Hi Got a 98 gst. New alternator. Car battery is not holding charge. Possible battery is bad??

Put a voltmeter to the alternator and see if its putting out like 14 volts. You may have a parasitic drain on the battery. Load test the battery first. If both alternator and battery test out good, take off one of the battery terminals and put a DVOM (or test light) between the terminal and the battery post when the car is off and see if there is any current. If there is, start pulling fuses one at a time to see what circuit is shorting or draining. Good luck.

Ya had the battery checked out. its good and recharged. Gotta check the alternator see if its dead even doh its new.

Hey guys, think i found the issue, i hope it is. Jumped the car checked voltage at battery, 12.5volts, let car on idle, after 30 mins, bat voltage 12.5, had lights on, ac, all seems good. Drove it and than it started to loose power, battery died again. batt voltage 9.8. Jumped it again, 12.5 volts again at the batt. Now... i looked at my capacitor, the digital voltage meter was jumping from 10 to 11, 12 volts. Loose connection at the cable and on the + terminal shaft. Would this cause the issue? Would a capacitor short be possible and drain the battery? I also noticed when the + cablewas touched/moved the car idled differenty.

Hi No electrical drain. I noticed that the drive belt is split in the middle and cracked, Think thats the issue, its slipping and not charging the alternator.
