Did a search and checked out Vfaq...couldn't find a definite answer.

I know to use a 91-94 ECU in a 1990 or vice versa you need to switch pins 6 and 14. But just a simple question..What would happen if I did not switch these 2 wires? Would the car run like crap? not run at all? hurt something?

Thanks, Mike

no not afraid at all. That's what im planning on doing, just making sure tho. So i'm taking the 91-93 ecu and putting into the 90. I dont have to change coil pack or anything like that do I...I can just straight switch over the ecu?

Yes you can just swap the 92 ECU into a 90 with only having to switch those two wires.

Sorry about not clarifying. . .

No, it will not function properly, if you just swap the wires and drop a 1991+ ECU into a 1990. Your tach will go haywire at certain rpm levels. Mine did this and at first I assumed my ECU was faulty.

You'll need to swap certain ignition components. The 1991+ ECU reads tach pulses that are inverted to what the 1990 reads.

I swapped in a 1991+ transistor and connector. See How to Put a 1991+ ECU in a 1990 DSM. It is a relatively simple proceedure. . .

I feel like an a$$. :sosad:
Someone needs to put a note for that on vfaq.

you're not an A$$, everyone's statements were still helpful and appreciated. I'm not a typical dumba$$. I can take 2 ideas that are split up put 'em together and make sense of it kinda thing so.

But, another question, You say the tach goes haywire...is it JUST the tack that screws around or is it RPM's too? Say i was not worried about the tach at this exact moment(not trying to jus find a easy way out, but getting all areas of info) would it still run\drive fine?

Thanks

Mine started up and drove fine. It SHOULD be ok until you get to a bone yard. I don't think it will melt anything. Mine drove fine so I don't think the ECU cares one way or the other. I'll suggest that you take it easy, since you don't know what you're taching.
