Buying a Used T-case, anything I should look out for?

That's what's happening right now. I checked my fluid levels and sure enough I'm low big time. Flushed it with redline heavy shockproof and now I'm seeing traces of it on my driveway. So I'm going to pick up a used 2G x-fer case from someone on a local board.

Is there anything I should be aware of before I buy this? Judging from the pics above, a new used transfer case should solve my issues (assuming it doesn't leak on me as well)

So the transfer case should come with the case itself and also the shaft with the ujoint?

Thanks guys!

First off, Did you do the transfer case recall?

As for buying another case. Look for cracks or welds on the case. Look at the gear splines for damage and make sure all parts are there.

Thanks for the advice

Ya the car had the recall done already, Mitsu refuses to do it again. So I'm getting this for a decent deal used - $70 CAD.

So where can I locate the gear splines? Can you see it from the outside looking in?
If it helps you can refer to this picture here.

Thanks.

Looking at the picture, this doesn't have the transfer case side of the u joint. Isn't that part of the transfer case? I just hope that by getting a new transfercase it's coming with everything all the parts that needs to be replaced.

EDIT: I might try to fix my transfer leak using this FAQ http://www.vfaq.com/mods/transfer.html
Looks really easy to do. How do I check if my current one isn't already damaged from fluid loss though? Open up the transfer case?

Don't open the transfer case. Just remove the propeller shaft from the rear and look at the condition of both sides. The splines are on the end and the right side of the transfer case. On the photo above it is covered by a white plastic cover.

If your not sure how well the transfer case recall kit was done, just buy it and do it yourself. Its not too hard to do. You may need a new oil seal for the transfer case but, check everything out.
