I bought a 1998 eclipse rs with an aftermarket turbo. The engine started knocking so we took it to a machine shop and it was rebuilt. Now after the engine has been reinstalled it puffs black smoke, I assume because of the fuel management system. I would appreciate if someone could help me out instead of critcize me for not knowing my car and owning a car I can't work on. The person I bought the car from didn't know much about it either. I am looking for either an individual or a shop to tune my car and make it run properly. I just want to drive it. Obviously the Mitsubishi dealer couldn't help me and I don't know anyone that works on "aftermarket foreign cars"." Please help, any suggestions would be appreciated. I can tell you as much as I can about the car. I have pictures in my gallery of the engine bay.

What management system? Are you sure it's black smoke? Why did you get the engine rebuilt just because of knock? Or was it audible knock?

I'm in midland, so you're not too far away. We've got a pretty good crew of guys around here that could probably give you a hand.

What you need though, is a logger. Pocketlogger is a good site, or pick up a palm pda and MMCD. That way you can start to measure how the engine is running to know how to tune her up.

I have an Apexi SAFC II, Im serious when I say someone hacked and cut wires in there. I have no idea what stuff I have. I do know I have eagle forged rods and wiseco pistons. Not sure what size injectors or anything. You could hear it knocking. The person who put my engine in said not to drive it until it was tuned. It sucks ### I want to drive it but can't. You can check out a pic of engine bay in my gallery.

Pick up a logger, and come hang out sometime so i/we can check it out. We'll help set you up man.

Not too bad a car either. Should ditch the kit though unless you like it. Putting her back to a stock looking car with a turbo would be a good sleeper.

:dsm: Just wanna let you know your questions are welcome here. its not often you get to help out a LADY dsmer. I belive you have a map sensor problem id check for a vaccuumm leak . If you could get a video uploaded on it . It would help to see what its doing. If this is possible. Did you ever get the 1990 awd back on the road? Welp im gone.

Yep the Talon is back on the road, its kinda funny but the problem was the brand new fuel pump we had put in it, it was defective. Talk about making me mad after trying to figure out what was wrong with it that wasn't replaced.

I got a new fuel pump that worked! It was still under warranty. So now I can drive my Talon, but still not my Eclipse.

if you need any other help try to give the guys at Porters Performance in Martin,MI
1-269-672-2006 ask for josh. they are great guys and know DSM's tel them Ryan recomended you

Yeah i would trust Backwoods over anyone around this area.
I dont know how much I like Porters Performance, on their website they say "DSM tuning specialists" but then right underneath that they said "1g63" WTF .

i couldnt find what you were you talking about but i have been there and have recived alot of good help from them.

Husband called Backwoods, they were going to talk to their eclipse people and call him back tomorrow!

What does everyone think of Porters Performance, that has actually used them. Backwoods acted like they didn't really want it. Porters sounded interested and willing to work on it. Just want to know what you think?

Well, my car is at Porters, they are fine tuning it, etc. They seemed to know what they were talking about. They are also willing to teach us some stuff.

I go there a lot. They are good guys and when I had some questions they helped out a lot. Bought a set of cams and turbo rebuild from them, both are great.:thumb: Say what you want to say but unless you go there personally and personally deal with them then you can't critisize them. :shhh: Until then you’re just hopping on someone else’s bandwagon.:nono: my .02
