:dsm: Today if everything goes well at the bank I am selling my 98 eclipse rs turboed to my brother! My question is what dsm should I get next? Im looking for something I can make pretty fast without spending alot of money into? Im not going for looks this time. So in your guys opinion what dsm should I get next? Thanxs.

Sorry I coudnt figure out what section to put this in!

You can get a 1G AWD 90-92 will give you a 6 bolt and they are fairly light and can be made as fast as any other turbo AWD DSM. Or if you want something else that has looks and balls get a 2G 95 TSI AWD or GSX.

They normally have a EPROM for DSMLink but the drawback is a 7bolt. But shells go for pretty cheap so i suggest buying a shell and dropping in a built 6bolt. FYI the 1G AWD is MUCH MUCH easier to work on due to room.

Dont worry about whether or not its a 7 bolt. If for some reason the engine in whatever car you get decides to crankwalk just get the 6 bolt to replace it.

If you dont care about looks as much and are strictly for speed get a 1g awd.. Almost 300lbs lighter than a 2g awd. So what ever thats worth to you... Also stock for stock I firmly believe, and can speak from experience, 1g is faster than 2g stock for stock... At the track, and especially on the top end.
2gs have smaller intake manifolds, ports, tbs, and the garabage t25 turbo...
The 14b that the 1g comes with is much better of a turbo in all aspects. 2gs just feel more torquey stock but trust me there not faster, and once free mods and stage 1 mods are added to 1gs and 2gs the performance difference between the two get more and more noticeable and the 1g will seem more and more faster than the 2g.
(until you upgrade the 2gs turbo that is. )
If you find a 92 yr 1g you may be lucky enough to get the 6bolt engine and the 4 bolt rear end... To me thats the best 1g yr.Mid 92 and later it was switched over to 7bolt..
92 and later you get 4 bolt rear end... SO basically you need a early made 92 dsm to get what im talking about.
Or you can just end up with a 6bolt swap like I did.

But 2g wins hand down in the looks department, and the suspension feels better to me on those cars, and when i drive the 2g I feel better over all control. Maybe thats just my opinion though.

Thanks guys for all the opinions. So, what you guys are saying is that 1g's are quicker stock because they are lighter but then once you upgrade the turbo on the 2g's they are faster. Im probably more interested in the 2g's because of the looks. Im looking at probably getting a GST or GSX. What mods can I do to get some decent horse power?

Good god, you've got a turbo car, even if it is an anemic pile. Certainly you had to do something to it as far as mods, as they sure don't come like that stock.

Do the same thing. Intake, Exhaust, Fuel + fuel management, clutch when it takes a dive.

Crazy as it sounds, cars are generally the same. Things that make power on a mustang make power on a F-body and a DSM. Luckily, we get a turbo on our cars from the factory.

Id just a gsx if you can, that way you dont have to deal with traction issues. I agree with the looks on the 2g, only downside is what everone else said the t-25 isnt very good. Ive only had my car a few months and ive already swapped to the 14b. Id suggest 14b swap, port manifold & o2 and full 3" downpipe and exhaust along with a MBC and different BOV. Should put you in the high 13's easily.

95 Talon AWD TSI//95 GST/GSX

I went for the GST becaus of the price and miles on it, and the year it was had 20k less than it should have.

I plan on keeping the GST, and soon doing a AWD conversion. Don't get me wrong I should of gotten a AWD in the first place, but like I mentioned before the price and miles.

I always prefered 2G's for the looks, and if you're into looks you have a more variety in after market exterior parts.

thanks guys for all your opinions I guess ive got alot of research to be doing on the 4g63.

Chico904: The reason im selling it is cus my brother wants to buy it and i really wanna get
something faster, and just a new project.

Whoa thats not what im saying... Im saying 1gs are lighter and yes they are quicker stock, and they have bigger turbos stock making them quicker.
But Also ( supposing both cars had same mods, driver, tune etc )
I believe a equally powered 1g will beat a equally powered 2g at the track,
and the 1gs power band is better for racing IMO and the lighter wt will always be a factor in speed... To sum it up, id say its easier to go faster in a 1g.
Therefore i think you should get a 1g gsx ( and if you find a 92 yr gsx you might get it with a 6bolt but you will get the 4bolt rear end for a fact. ) As I was saying earilier.

Get a 1G if you want to go fast. their cheap and light and i personally would rather beat on one of those in a race than a nice looking 2g. also stripping out the interior will save you a ton of weight, and again i wouldn't really wanna do that to my 2G. defiantly go AWD it just makes more sense...

i was always kinda partial to the idea of a turbo awd laser myself ... but to be honest i have never seen one, just like the idea of having no one know whats coming.

In your first post of this thread you said you weren't going for looks, now you said you want a 2g because thy look better?!OMG

IMO, go with a 1g awd 6/4 combo. It'll be much cheaper.

look.

the 1g's are only very marginally faster stock, 95 percent due to weight, and 5 percent due to bigger intake and i believe head is designed a little differently for more flow. but the bottom line is you WILL get sick of the way it looks if you already had a 2g. im sure i'll get crap from the 1g guys, but hell, u cant deny they're ugly as crap.

so this is what you do. go on ebay, find a 2g AWD, tsi or GSX, whichever,(2gb GSX's look great tho) with a buttload of miles on it. 200k plus, if you can find it. buy it for super cheap, drop in a 6 bolt motor with 14b or better yet a 16g. maybe some suspension mods to repare the crappy stock ones and while your at it lower it, two birds with one stone.

voila. great looking car for about 4k-5k, Newly rebuilt engine(they sell rebuilt 6 bolts on ebay for only a grand or so) and great suspension. cant ask for more!:dsm:

Yea i spent months on and off looking on ebay/autotrader ect. Finally found mine for $3500, body was in good shape with 100k on the engine. I had to drive around 5 hours round trip to get it, but it all worked out.

Thanks guys for all the replies and sorry for the misunderstanding about the looks thing! Is what i meant by I wasn't going for looks i meant the whole body kit deal! I meant the stock looks. Most likely im gonna be looking for a 91 or 92 awd.

Thanks guys!

I'm not opposed to the idea of buying a high mileage shell, but whatever you do, don't buy one from up north in the Rust Belt. That car will be the worst pile of crap that you've ever had to work on.
