Out put shaft?

I bought a 92 awd for parts for my 90.Pulled the transfercase and tranny out.When I got the tranny out I noticed that the output shaft pulled right out of the transmission.Is this supposed to happen?If not,what is wrong/broken?What can be done?Thanks

the actual shaft out of the tranny or do you mean you could se it sticking out?

I can grab the shaft and pull it all of the way out of the tranny

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!So I get the tranny in,take it for a spin...works great.Then I put my new Turbo on(EVO III) Take it for a ride,stomp on a couple of times and it dumps all the gear lube out of that seal.Is that from that shaft or a bad seal???Please help!!
