So i'm finally starting to make some progress on my new 1g as of now i replaced both front axles, ball joints and wheel bearings. I repalced all the rotors upgraded to twin piston calipers. I also picked up a complete energy suspension kit the i'm going to put in.My next step in mods is going to being sway bars, agx's and eibach prokit. So i'm startin to make my list of engine and supporting mods so I can start buying parts. There are several parts i'm still unsure of as of right now. So this is what i've been thinking....

Slowboy Stage 2 2.3l stroker block(or maybe 2.0)?
garett gt35r
272 cams (280s?)
1000cc inj.s (1600cc?)
dsmlink(AEM?)

My big problem is that i have heard mixed reviews about 2.3l strokers and dsmlink vs. AEM. I have a spare 6 bolt that i'm going to build then swap in whenever i finally finish it. The car was bought to be built not to be a daily driver so i want to go all out.

What do you want to do with the car? If you are looking for more low end power, go for the 2.3l because it will bring down your power curve to the lower rpm range. Is this going to be a street car? WIth 280's your aren't going to have the nicest idle, if it is a street car you may just want to do 272's. I have heard lots of good about AEM and DSMLINK, I guess there, it is a matter of money and personal preference. Just remember, do it right the first time, and you won't have to do it a second time! Good luck!

First things first:

You will always see mixed reviews about almost everything. Even the "known" products will have people that had bad luck with them.

I agree with the above poster in saying that you need to define what you want. What are you building this car for, goals etc. You also need to define a budget because what A LOT of people new to the cars forget is that there are a lot of supporting mods for everything you do.

Without that information I can't really give you quality advice, but if it were MY car:

2.3L stroker is a quallity motor. I wouldn't get a longblock from SBR. I would go Magnus, Buschur, Engintecs, or FFWD
DSM link
1600cc injectors
272 or FP3 cams
FP 3065

To show my point about not always knowing what has to go along with the products here is a short list of all the things you'll need to run the above:
Fuel pump, fuel pump regulator, exhaust mani, wastegate, o2 housing, downpipe, new OEM parts for engine like knock sensor, o2 sensor, tuning devices like a wideband o2... etc the list goes on.

Note that there are cams specially researched and designed for stroker/2.4 L setups... 272s are not the best choice from all reviews I've seen... If you look at that sort of thing:D .

Not that 272s won't do fine, but if you have the moola. . . Cheaper stroker cams are there!!!

P.S. DSMLink, EMS; 9s and 8s. . . who cares. Are you really going to push either ecu :D ? Get the cheaper of the two.

Our 2.3 stroker, 1000cc injectors, dsmlink, 272's and a 30 or 35r would be a bomb setup. you would be very satisfied i think. and IF theres is any speculations of our engines not holding up fpr those that dont reccomend ours....our rally car in 100 acre wood was teh only open class evo to finish...the others blew up...so our motors stay together :thumb: . If there is anything else you need to know or have questions about feel free to shoot me a pm and ill take care of ya.

I definately know i need support mods. The parts i listed are the ones i'm not 100% sure on yet. I was considering the fp3065 but its seems like most people with top setups are running a full garret setup. I am looking to make a crazy fast street car and I repeat this is not a dail;y driver whatsoever. I want to make 500-600hp and its going to cost big money I know this.

Okay i've done searching and not really sure I want 1600cc injectors sound like their way too much trouble to tune and you lose alot of low end driveability. So how would FIC 1150cc work instead with dsmlink.

Why wouldn't you reccomend a SBR short block? I wanted a Buschur in the first place but they don't have 2.3l strokers on their website and they don't have dsmlink on there either. That was one of the main reasons I was looking at SBR because I thought maybe bushcur wouldn't tune the car if I used dsmlink and not AEM. Also what about SBR heads I was looking at their stage 5 head/plus maybe adding +1mm vavles to it.

I don't want to create a shit-fest, so I'll try to be extremly objective and relate only to my experiences. Feel free to search for other stories.

First, let it be known that I've dropped several thousand dollars at SBR for parts and other things. (probably about 3.5K all said and done)
Second, I'll never spend another penny there, and will gladly pay more for parts from other places. As always, YMMV.

I will say though that if the BRAND NEW SBR manifold that I have is any indication of their machine shops ability, I wouldn't even want to see how badly they can screw up a motor. (I have no idea if it is completely contracted out, or if they get the casting done in one place and then use their own machine shop... but either way quality control on this thing is terrible.)

Lastly, CALL shops and see what they can do for you. Products, prices, what they do to their motors, etc. Don't just go by what a website says.
