well just as the title says my car i just recently purchased won't start......its a 1990 talon tsi when i looked in the engine bay i noticed the fuel rail was loose....and the cas wires have been hacked and it was left loose .....i think i know what the little superchips boost graphic runs to now....but i am getting fuel and it appears i am getting spark....timing is dead on......my question is the way the cas is sitting on the head the wires are facing down i just wanna know if this is correct because my other 1g head i have in the garage has the wires facing up but it is a non turbo head ......are the non turbo and turbo head cas the same?.....because i am thinking my cas is way out of time and i am recieving spark at the wrong times because this car won't even start with starting fluid could someone please help me get my car running

thanks in advance

well it turns out that only 1 and 4 are getting spark so i am thinking my transister is out or maybe the coils.... definatly hoping it is not the ecu

well today i did a compression test and i got the results as follows 125 145 145 125.........so i should be starting i got fuel also.......both my coils are good because when i swapped the wires around on the coils the other one fired.....i also went and bought a new power transister from advance auto it helped by delivering spark more while cranking......could someone please tell me where i should look next i really wanna feel the power of dsms once again

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

i have a n/t cas i have laying in my old head so i am thinking of grabbing that up and trying it out i think its off a 91 because it has the plug on the sensor rather then wires then the plug by the battery like the 90 so does anyone see any problems i will face here such as wiring differences etc......

the 90 cam/ crank sensor has a plug that plugs into a connector back by the battery where the 91 to 94 have the connector coming out of the injector loom to plug right on top of the cas....

well i swapped the sensor and i am getting spark to 2 and 3 but not 1 and 4 ?? can someone tell me why LOL i mean now the ones that were not firing are firing but the ones that were firing before are not now i think i saw 1 and 4 fire once and that was it

The only things i can think of that would cause you not to have spark is: wires, plugs, transistor pack, coil pack, maybe your cas is screwed, or ecu. But there may be others that have had this problem. My cousin is actually and we still haven't figured out whats goin on

Did you replace the coil pack? The only part on your car that would cause no spark in the 2 & 3 wires or 1 & 4 would be the coil pack ((NO SPARK)). Unless both wires are bad i would find that hard to believe.

i was having the same problem when i bought my 90...there was no spark...i changed everything that you changed...cam angle senser, wires,cp,tr unit....it ended up being the ecu...sooo i was try to find an ecu and swap it...im guessing thats the problem

The cas. controls injector timing through 1 output, & spark timing pickup through the other output wire. If you are missing spark on 2 & 3, & have spark on 1 & 4, the cas. is probably good or you would have no spark at all anywhere. You probably have a bad coil (2,3 coil),or a bad transistor. :dsm:

does that make sence that now the coil that wouldn't fire with the original cas fires with this other cas....both coils are good i just don't get it i had 1 and 4 to start with then i swapped the sensors and now 2 and 3 are working but 1 and 4 are not so maybe it is the ecu

Most likly thats what it is the car should still start even with two wires firing. The idle would be real bad but still start.Stupit ??????, but does the car start

..try pulling out you ecu and open it up...look and see if the resisters are leaking...or if it smells like fish...those resisters go bad..and start eating away the board

car is starting but it won't stay running i don't think the injectors are opening sprayed some either and it starts it just seems like its not getting fuel to the cylinders even though its getting to the rail so ecu???

well the fuel pump is working i can hear it running when the car is running for about 20 secs it starts runs for like 5 secs then for the rest it just chugs till it dies and the rpm is below 500 someone told me to take the ecu out and check it for damage but i have never removed an ecu r they difficult to remove and before i do that how u want me to test the fuel pressure

i also wanna point out that after swapping a wire on the cas i am now getting spark on 1 and 4 and cylinders 2 and 3 here and there and i also wanan know if bad gas can play a role in this ?

You need a fuel pressure tester/guage kit. The ecu. on a 1990 1G is behind the console I think, I`m not sure. Based on your last description of symptoms, I`m leaning more toward an ecu. issue. A bad capacitor inside the ecu. can cause crazy, intermittent problems, just like you are having . . .

No. Bad fuel will NOT give you intermittent spark. As far as switching wires on the cas, that will invert the signal to the injectors, & possibly the coils, effectively just switching their firing orders.

when i had the cas out and spinning it by hand i could hear a high pitch whine which i believe is the fuel pump so u think maybe when i swapped that wire that i may have caused the injectors to stop firing??
