My old speedometer is shot and I bought another one, but with lower mileage. I do have to change it to the right mileage, do to insurance in Norway.

Does anyone know how to adjust that? The car is a 97 Eagle Talon ESi A/T
Thanks,
RJ

WOW,

you are required to modify the mileage to be Legal?

That is someting that is looked upon as a NO NO as far as ive known.
are you sure that is the only way? You cant have the mileage documented and recorded on the title?

as far as that goes though, I read about guys taking the clear cover off the guage and rolling the digits by hand. id warm the cluster up to Higher than norway weather conditions before taking it apart though, plastic is brittle when cold.

Pratice on your old cluster first.

If the only thing you did was replace the speedometer cable and the part that goes in the transmission, then you don't need to do anything. If you replaced your gauge cluster or the speedometer on the cluster, then you might be able to change that .

ive messed around with one out of the car and its fairly easy to change the milage.
Anyone with slight mechanical ability should be able to tackle it with out much fuss.

Since you have old one from your car - practice on that. (try a little force)

And to anyone in the states getting ideas, never try to do such a thing. It is illegal, and rotten.

I had to get a new cluster for the Talon awhile back and changed it to the correct mileage, its not exactly illegal. This is the link which I used to get the job done.

Our gauge cluster is pretty much identical to this one so its pretty easy to do. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

It is illegal regardless if you're changing it to reflect the actual mileage or to falsify the mileage for financial gain. That's what odometer disclosure statements are for.

Well, its apparently not illegal in Norway. So for our friend it should be alright. I spoke to a few law officers locally and they see nothing wrong with it. However, I will check on the exact laws local and federal and get back with you on any exact codes which govern this particular subject.

Well, as promised, I did check to see if I could find anything on the web. And the results are that I couldn't find anything that said it was legal rolling forward a used cluster to match the actual mileage of the car. So I stand corrected. But, I don't feel that it is unethical to change your own when purchasing a used donar cluster to install in a car which the original has been damaged. But, thats just my opinion and not legal advice by any means. That being said, Luke is totally correct. Thanks for the correction.

Did your insurance company specifically tell you to Adjust the mileage?

I would get a written request from them before I did it. Just incase.

I agree with you, as long as the mileage isn't being misrepresented I don't see a problem, it's just the law kind of screws that up.

Would seem much more ethical to illegally change a replacement odometer to match the actual mileage, than to buy one with less mileage and "somehow" forget about doing it when you sold the car.

How much would that suck? Don't change it because it's illegal, and then get sued later for misrepresentation of the mileage after you sold it... LOL

what are your guys' and girls' feelings on changing the odometer milage because the previous owner messed with it? For example, I bought my laser with 28k on the clock (it was obviously spun) so would it be wrong of me to set it to what I think is the right mileage? I mean legally of course it is, but what do y'all think?

Also, off topic here but I want to buy a cheap voltmeter to find 12v sources for gauge lighting, would this one work? http://cgi.ebay.com/DIGITAL-MULTIME...8QQihZ011QQcategoryZ25412QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
