ok i don't know what to look for or how to go about fixing this. i need all ideas i can come up with and investigate all i can...heres what happened. i was driving at about 70 miles an hour down a hill...pressed in the clutch to coast and also to slow myself down to turn. when i pressed in the clutch my car stalled. well the car would not start after and probably about 99% of all the engine oil is gone...leaked out. the area that the oil leaked out was (from the front bumper looking over the engine) on the right side ( oil filter side) and i couldn't locate any actual leak. tired to let the clutch back out while coasting to restart the engine....also tried turning the key once stopped. when i use the key...the start deffinetly turns...but u don't hear the engine try to turn over....i am at a loss and i don't know what to do. any help would be VERY appreciated....oh and this is a 1991 Eclipse turbo AWD manual.

put some oil in it and turn the crank with a ratchet and see if the motor did not seize up. Does the block look intact (did it throw a rod).

one thing to always keep in mind I learned from a Jeep web forum,
if your running down a hill in, say 1st gear, you push in the clutch and coast, knowing that you will use 1st gear next.
Your clutch disc is still spinning as fast as you are moving, so if you are coasting 60MPH downhill in 1st gear your disc may fly apart. Just something you should remember.

Your disc is ALWAYS spinning unless its in neutral in relation to your gear/speed.

As for your disapearing oil, is the filter tight? any missing bolts or loose lines from an oil cooler?

first i'm pretty sure the rod wasn't thrown because it was silent no noises. also the oil wasn't like all of a sudden gone it dripped out at a fast rate but not at a waterfall gush. also i was still in fifth gear when i let the clutch back out. and my transmission is at the point where i wouldn't have been able to put it into first anyways moving that fast. it was too dark to actually check for missing bolts and whatnot until i can get it into y gargae. my first thoughts are going to be the oil filter which i will check tomorrow. i am deffinetly hoping that is all the porblen was....but then why won't my engine turn over or fire even?? those are my big question...the starter makes a buzzing noise like all its doin is free turning. but it may still be turning over the engine just with no fire.

Have you tried to see if the motor locked up? If there was no oil in it and you was doing 70mph or so when you engaged the clutch could explain why the car shut off on you running with no oil.
1.find the oil leak if you said around the oil filter check maybe the hoses around on the housing maybe they came loose or has a hole in it.
2.put oil in the motor.
3.try turning the motor by hand to make sure its not seized also look at your timing marks.
4.take the starter out and check the teeth on it and since its out its not a bad idea to have it checked at the autoparts store to see how it does under a load.
5. if the motor spins by hand then look at the teeth on the flywheel too.

you cant keep a good dsm down:thumb: dont give up on it.

as soon as i get out of school tomorrow...i'll go home put the thing in the garage jack the thing up and do the things mentioned. also i will be on here postiing what i find and any questions i might have so i would hope i can still get some help. also i am soooo hoping that the engine is still good!!!!:sosad:

Man oh man are you guys going to love this. The title of this post is perfect. Well I checked for leaks and sure enough, the oil filter was loose. That solved one of my problems....but the car still wouldn't start. i put oil in it and was able to crank the engine over by hand surprisingly easy and then there was this click. well right off I knew that wasn't right so I then took off the timing belt cover off and went to look at the belt which was still very tight. The starter was deffinetly turning the engine over but the engine wouldn't start...but then I realized...the cams aren't spinning; the belt wasn't turning. So...now what. i know now i need to have the head rebuilt for the valves are sure to be destroyed...but yet i don't know what other damage could have occured. If anyone has any other thoughts i would so totally LOVE to hear them!!! thanks:sosad:

Before you read, I am a DSM Newbie, and am only telling my experience......This Sounds almost exactly like what happened when i broke the timing belt in my 92 Talon TSI AWD manual as well. I was cruising at about 80km an hour and all of a sudden stutter, and cant start engine. But when i checked my timing belt it still appeared tight. Checked through the oil fill to see if crank was turning and no turn...damage could be a little more than just re-build head. I screwed up 2 pistons, 8 valves, and 3 valve seats...

Well when I said that I need to rebuild the head thats kind of what i ment. I know I am going to need at least 8 valves depending where the cams stopped turning at. Also I know that the cams haven't snapped. But I do not know if the cams have seized nor do I know how to check that. but either way, I believe that my car is a pile right now. No engine. My dad seems to think that when I lost the oil in the car the cams then seized and the crankshaft ripped the little teeth off the timing belt which is why the car stopped running.
