Anyone use Sunoco 100 octane?? was seing how it was compared to other brands, also kind of new to race fuel, so if I were to add say 5 gallons or so to a couple gallons of 93 octane, would it be near all 100 octane?

If you mix 5 gallons of 100 octane and 2 gallons of 93 octane the resulting octane of the 7 gallon mix will be 98.

I mean that was just an examply of qty, I mean I'm sure if it all was 100 octane in the tank then the octane would be at 100, but i mean no matter what 93 to 100 ratio, it'll be bout 98?? would octane booster help even boost it up even more?meaning of course it all varies with which brand octane booster if anything, but im just curious now.

how much are you paying for a gallon of 100octane?
out here in vegas all we have is REBEL 100octane at $5 bucks a gallon.
or straight 91octane out the pump.. like $3 bucks a gallon
but we can also go down to the speedway and get like 110-115octane
all us big turbo guru's run the 100octane, and it runs hella good..

Uuuuummmm, no. It's a simple calculation...

((X x 100) + (Y x 93)) / X+Y

for example: 5 gallons of 100 and 12 gallons of 93 (full tank)

500+ 1116/ 17 = 95.05 Octane

I've been running Sunoco fuel in my 2G for the past year. I daily drive on 110 leaded and I have no complaints about the product's performance. I'm making great power on a stock 7-bolt engine with a little 50-trim.

I have friends and customers that have ran Torco and Sunoco and they seem to get better performance and more consistancy out of the Sunoco fuels.

I've read that running leaded fuel will clog a cat. I'm catless, so what other issues may arise if I give leaded race gas a try? Will I ruin my O2 sensors? Will anything in the head be adversely affected?

And for anyone in Colorado Springs, CO, do you know anywhere else to buy race gas besides Lanier Speed Shop? They want $7/gal for 104 unleaded.....

YES you will ruin your o2 sensors real fast, and they are not cheap!

99gst-racer: How are you overcoming the issue of ruining your O2 sensors if you are running leaded daily? Is this something you can use DSMLink to work around?

What do guys pay????!!!!!!!

DAMN!!!!
I pay $6.25 for 76's 101oct!!! OMG
I can pump it strait into the car 24/7. I thought that was good ....but now :sosad:
It costs me about $6 more to fill my tank with 110 octane as apposed to 93 octane pump gas. Perks of being a Sunoco dealer at a performance shop. :p :thumb:

Yes, you can't run it with a cat (I haven't had a cat on my car in 4 years). It does also reduce the life of O2 sensors, but it's not as bad as most people think. If anything, it's better for the head. The lead in the fuel helps keep the valves lubricated.

I only drive my car in the 'nicer' Michigan months (may-october). After driving those 6 months of last year, my narrowband and wideband sensors still worked fine. But in reality, even if I have to replace them once a year, the benefits of running the fuel outweigh the cost of the two sensors. I see it as collateral damage. :D

Answered my own question...Chief Petroleum on S. 10th if anyone local is paying attention. 111 octane leaded for $4.45/gal.

infamous marcus, check the two prices above for contrast to what you are paying.

Can you show me where you got this formula 'cause I've alway heard the octane didn't add linearly? I got my info from a buddy who has a Masters in Combustion Engineering.

No, I can't tell you where I got it. Just a basic ratio equation. I dunno... an 8th grade Alg. text book maybe.

If Octane doesn't add linearly, it's news to me. Maybe get your buddy with the Masters in Combustion Engineering to explain it to us all. Then we'll all be informed, assuming that's true.

What equation do you have?

Nice dyno #s by the way. Why not turn up the boost on the 35r..? ;)

It was in an SAE publication. The closest thing I can find is a link to the actual publication here:
http://www.sae.org/technical/papers/922216

I don't feel like buying it so :p

~3rd paragraph down they state the regression for Research octane at 92% and Motor octane at 48%. When you see octane on the gas station pump it's rated as R + M / 2.

It might still be 8th grade algebra though. :)

Re: boost... I drove the car from Indy to AMS to dyno and couldn't get all the pump gas out. We threw in 5 gallons of C16 but still got a little knock. Boost kissed ~35 then fell to ~32 psi. I might have made >600 if the fuel was all C16.
